You can check out anytime you like ...
I went to Gospel Doctrine class yesterday, the only one of the three meetings I attended. Anyhow, the class was about how the gospel provides blessings that people outside the church don't have.
One thing really stood out. The instructor's wife, who is one of those people who has a running commentary during every lesson (at least the 2 or 3 I've been in), said that one of the great things about Mormonism is that they won't let you break your covenants. "You may just decide to turn your back on the church and your covenants, but they will always track you down. Someone will find you, and soon you'll have concerned home teachers and priesthood leaders there to help you find your way again."
This elicited some nervous laughter in the class, but I was dumbfounded. I leaned over and said to my wife, "Sounds like the Hotel California." She said it did sound a little ominous.
That's the first time I've heard of anyone being proud that you can't easily get out of Mormonism

All people trying to leave seemed to enventually gravitate to the Hollywood or Wilshire wards in LA back in the 80's when I was a missionary. These wards had 1000-2000 people on the rolls and we often were asked to track down a lost soul just so their family knew they were alive.
Of course we were also asked to help rescue them from whatever eastern religion, homosexual, or drug induced lifestyle they were buried in and we were occaisionally successful on all counts.

OK, ya got me. I'm here in Provo living a debauched life of drug-fueled homosexual orgies, and I spend my sober hours at the Hare Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork.

The only way I can think of that one could read such a coloring into what I said is that one must already be kicking against the pricks.

Good heavens. We don't have smilies here, and I was making a joke. Sheesh.
My foot is kinda sore from all the kicking, though.
