LDS & ex-LDS Political Ideologies

Apparently the Church leans heavily toward the right politically and many of the posters on MAD proclaim to be ideological conservatives.

I've witnessed the extreme opposite on this board where posters tend to lean more to the liberal ideology in the political realm.

I wonder if those of you that would consider yourselves leaning more toward the left on the political scale shifted political views before leaving the Church, after leaving the Church, or were always an independent thinker when you were a part of the Church?

If you did have a shift in your ideology did this occur before, during, or after leaving the Church? Or still in transition?

I've always been links and always will be.

Changing belief was enough stress and heartache for me. Luckily I never had to refigure my political leanings.

Go Kucenich! You commie you!

Maybe it's because I'm in Britain - I think there's far more liberal LDS over here - but losing belief didn't 'really' affect my political views 'that' much.
I think it forced me to think about them a bit more, and define them a bit better. But I generally thought the same way politically when I was a believer...

Nothing changed, though I guess I moved further links as gramps would say the older I got. I don't formally belong to any organized group, but I'm pretty close to the folks in the 4th International Tendancy.

I was a card-carrying member of the Libertarian party for many years.

Becoming an ex-Mormon didn't change that.

I've always been a fiscal Republican. I'm more liberal on some of the social issues, but I'm all about tax cuts and strong defense.

That's why I back Giuliani for President.

An interesting debate I have with hubby right now.

Me: Would you like Romney as much if he wasn't LDS?

Him: Would you HATE Romney as much if wasn't LDS?

LOL

Actually, the answer would be yes, in my case.

Yes, I became a heathen once I dropped Mormonism. I now support stem cell research and gay rights.

I became more libertarian after serving a mission in Holland. I can appreciate some of their freedoms, but the taxes over there are pretty high (dog tax? radio tax? good grief).
