Saudi Cleric teaches the proper way to beat a wife.
If he beats her, the beatings must be light and must not make her face ugly. He must beat her where it will not leave marks. He should not beat her on the hand. He should beat her in some places where it will not cause any damage. He should not beat her like he would beat an animal or a child, slapping them right and left. Unfortunately, many husbands beat their wives only when they get mad, and when they start beating, it as if they are punching a wall – they beat with their hands, right and left, and sometimes use their feet. Brother, it is a human being you are beating. This is forbidden. He must not do this.

How to beat a Saudi Cleric who advocates the proper way to beat a wife:
"When beating the douche, the beatings must focus on inflicting as much damage as possible to the penis and testicles (a.k.a. Manland) of said douche as possible. I know the area you are aiming for is very small, but if you kick enough times with enough force, you will bruise the tiny nuggets of wimpiness that quite possibly might be the root cause of the advocated wife beating in the first place. Repeat until the douche has learned that wife beating will result in testicular assault, and that repeated beatings of the feminine portions of society creates a ballooned punishment scenario which allow the douche beater to upgrade to blunt objects for testicular assault, such as a chisel and hammer or the ever popular croquet mallet."

Naturally this is extreme. There are extremists in all religions. I think Islam is a good religion. Most Muslims ignore the more extreme verses in the Koran, and hang on to the virtues in Islam. by the way, I'm not suggesting you didn't realise this, Barrel. I have dozens of Muslims friends, and none are extreme, but have adopted the best values in their religion, and ignored the rest. I have immense respect for them.

I really don't know. My understanding/experience is that most Muslims disagree with the extreme tendencies in their leaders. I have talked to many Muslims, and none of them fully endorse what "comes from the top", except like-minded extremists. If you talk to an average, normal Muslim, unconnected with Taliban-like fanaticism, he/she is usually a person of integrity and honour that is irresistible. They are very fine and honourable people, and a lot of that comes from their Islamic beliefs.
Ray, I agree that the nutso usually are the fringe - or at least I earnestly hope that! I just shared it because I found it disturbing... I wasn't making a commentary on Muslims or their beliefs.
