November 5th, 2006 Banned from unFAIR

Banned 1 Year Ago

Just recently a fast ISP became available in my area for the first time. So I changed to the fast internet. With the change in ISPs and my address I decided to check out MAD for the first time since I was banned on November 5th, 2006. I registered as a Edsel and played a sockpuppet for the first time ever. I didn’t change my id in my address, I did some PMing, and tried to resist posting. I knew that I would be banned again and that it would not take long. I wanted to read a bit and get the flavor of the board again. I found it quite boring for the couple of weeks that I lurked. I did make a couple of innocent and benign posts on David Bokovoy’s thread about Divine Counsel and calling Kevin out when Kevin was unable to respond. The same thread that TrashCanMan was banned over. You can’t defend what is fair or anything that has anything to do with Kevin in any way shape or form or you’re gone from there. I made a total of about 10 posts and was banned

I did accomplish what I really wanted to do and the real reason I went there in the first place. I wanted to access my old posts and especially my last post before being banned for good. I am glad it is for good and forever because I have no desire to ever go back.

After a year I got curious about what I did to get banned to the point of not even being able to read the site. Some times your memory fades. Anyway to celebrate the one year anniversary of the “infamous” banning from FAIR I would like to post my last post and some supporting posts. Maybe some of you would like to add your memories of a year ago.

Shortly, after the bannings a year ago, I had a conversation here at MD with Paharon (I hate to spell it correctly) about my banning. I had a recent conversation with Charity and it reminded me of this conversation where Pah even admitted that I really nothing to deserve banning. That thread follows:

Thanx for checking my posts. At this point I can't prove that you made that statement or not, you may have and you may not have. If I misspoke about you I apologize, I did and do not think I was mistaken.

One thing that you have done by checking my posts and offering a summary here is you have shown your obsession with what is said here.

Obsession? You said that you couldn't get back there, suggested a line of inquiry, so I did my best to follow it up. How on earth is that an "obsession?"

You have also illustrated the hypocrisy of FAIR, you can access my posts from now to forever and I can't.

How is that "hypocrisy?" That appears to be a feature of normal message board functionality. When I was banned from the execrable "Concerned Christians" board, I couldn't see any of my old posts any more either.

You also stated on another thread that the bannings last week were for using sockpuppets. I was in that group of bannings. I have used one handle, one avatar and one IP address for my entire career on the internet, no matter what board I have been on.

Okay, now I see where the misunderstanding arises from. I wasn't speaking about any particular set of bannings, but only about something the mods announced fairly recently, that they were cracking down on sock-puppets.

So you can't wholesale lift entire postings but you can "quote relevant excerpts" from my posts. Tell me out of the nine of my latest posts you summarized, from 9/30 to 11/04, did you find anything that violated any of FAIR board rules? 9 posts in 34 days not a lot of activity, I must have really violated something serious at FAIR to be such a threat.

A "threat?" Is self-importance a prerequisite here? To tell the truth, while I saw stuff I would take issue with, I saw nothing that was other than innocuous.

I'm not a mod. Please don't ask me to second-guess their decisions. If they didn't explain to you why you were banned, then I can only speculate just like you.

As for the reasons for you being banned: I don't know. I thought you said you were banned because of something you posted elsewhere. That's certainly possible, though I expect it would depend more upon what you posted than where.

When I post at FAIR that is FAIR's business, when I post anywhere else it is none of FAIR's business.

On the whole, I agree, but then again that depends if FAIR and the board participants are involved.

My take on this banning is I was banned because of where I posted because you nor anyone at FAIR can find a reason for banning me for what I posted at FAIR. Further more I posted nothing here or at MTT that would violate FAIR rules. Except that I referred to Dr. Peterson as Dr. Pastry which I think is quite benign and still not a banning offence.

Of itself, I really couldn't say. As I said before, I had never heard of "Dr. Pastry" and had no idea who you were referring to.

Incidentally, and just to set the record straight, Dan is no starveling, but neither is he the vast mountain of lard some of you seem to imagine him to be. He doesn't cause the earth to wobble on its axis when he visits New Zealand. He doesn't carry his own weather system with him. Him crossing the street is not a seismic event. In fact, when I drove him from the University to the Temple, we weren't even preceded by a pilot vehicle with a "wide load follows" sign.

And just so you know: he doesn't even like Krispy Kreme doughnuts. His title of "Krispy Kreme King" is a self-deprecating joke that is a parody on the silly anti-Mormon caricatures of him.

Which, incidentally, remind me of nothing so much as anti-Semitic cartoons of Jews with huge noses.

In my last post at unFAIR,

from Pah,
Your latest post was posted on Nov 4 2006, 03:26 PM in a thread entitled "Then The Brethren Don't Know?"

this was a thread Markk started. It went heated with BCSpace and the Doctor, it went heated with Markk and the Doctor. It boiled down to an argument that the Doctor was defending, that the brethren knew about the opposition message boards and but they were not monitoring them and that no organization in the church was either. Markk's question just boiled down to, "If the brethren know about it all, but they are not monitoring and not having anyone else or a church org monitoring, How do they know about it? Who is telling them about it?"

The Doctor made a post telling Markk that he has met with the FP and the GAs and does so frequently and he knows they are not monitoring the internet. He goes on to state he has met with many other individuals and orgs in the COB and does so frequently and so he knows for a fact that they are not monitoring the internet.

I paraphrased here Pah, so if I am wrong get permission and post my last post.

I added some humor and stated,

Markk's simple question is who is telling the FP and the GAs?

I stated that from the Doctor's post, it had to be none other than Dr. Peterson.

Boy, that is the kind of humor that is sooo threatening that it is worth banning someone.

Not that I can see. I wasn't exactly offended.

The paranoia on that thread--and on the copycat thread here--was probably funnier, though.

Regards,
Pahoran

My evidence derives from direct conversations with General Authorities and Church employees at all levels and about a number of subjects, including subjects touching very much on this one. With regard to the suggestion that, for example, members of the Public Affairs staff in Australia are involved in monitoring anti-Mormonism there and on the web, my evidence derives from the fact that I know every single member of that staff, both employed and Church service, and have spent considerable time with each and every one of them during the past two months. I know their assignments and what they do. Those do not include monitoring anti-Mormons or watching web sites. I know for a fact, from direct conversation, that senior Public Affairs officers at the headquarters in Salt Lake know a great deal less about anti-Mormonism on the web and about various message boards such as this one than I do.

It's Dr. Peterson!!! (smilie)

Quite prophetic, Nov. 4th, 2006 was a Saturday.

November 5th, 2006 was a Sunday, the day of the banning.

One year ago, tomorrow, Monday, time to celebrate!

I love that you all were banned. :)

Can you imagine if MDB never came to be? The horror! I can't even imagine!

*also consider what a pain in the ass this board is to some people - they can't help but peek through their fingers to peer in*

Yay for November 5th! :)

I believe that I was banned for no other reason than I was posting over here.

And I am glad I was banned, now twice.

Yah, I've heard a few people say that! I don't understand that....... Juliann and sput told me I was essentially a traitor.

?!?!?!

Very odd to think that posting at alternative boards is akin (in some minds) as fraternizing with the enemy!

I am of the opinion that every community has a personality, and that this group personality is reflected in the individuals who belong to the community to a greater or lesser extent. When I quit attending the LDS Church, the personality of the LDS Community played no small role in that decision. I looked around the chapel and thought to myself, "now, most of these people aren't bad folks, but do I really admire them, want to emulate them, or even just plain hang out with them?" Absent of the shared experience of Mormonism, I might have said yes, but seeing them as a group of fellow LDS people I saw very little there that "tasted good" to me. I would have to say the same goes for MA&D, and many other things LDS. Personality is an important issue, as petty as it may seem, and MA&D has a pretty nasty personality, from my point of view. There may be stuff here that bugs me, but overall I really enjoy the personality of MormonDiscussions and I have little desire to spend time at MA&D, even though I once again can access the site!

Now, someone from MA&D may look at things here and say much the same thing about the MormonDiscussions. That is mostly a reflection of personality differences. What one person takes delight in, another hates. I will say that I don't get into RfM and post-Mormon, largely because, once again, they don't appeal to my personality either.

Thanx for the morning music by the way.

I guess the unstated argument I was having with Pah, was that I did nothing on the board at unFAIR to deserve banning and he agreed so in my mind that was proof to me that I was banned just because I was over here. I guess if truth and fairness is fraternizing with the enemy then I am fraternizing with the enemy.

This un-moderated or self-moderated board system that Dr. Shades set up is the best there is. I think that MAD will continue to add to our ranks here. I think that this board is gaining in true scholarship and will continue to do so. My hat is off to the good Dr.

Tell me about it! I need life to slow down a little, too!

Well, WK, just a year ago, we were PM'ing on MAD and I "carefully led you to hell", or you carefully led me to hell....Hmmm...I wonder which way Juliann and Dan G thought that went down?

Oh, well..it was a fun trip. Welcome to the dark side!

Hello,
I was also another one that got banned from Posting on the “FAIR”/MA&D Message Board as Brackite, on the infamous date of November 5th, 2006, for that Message Board over there. I re-registered on the MA&D Message Board as Beckite, on June 25th, of earlier this year. The next day, before I got to Post any new Messages as Beckite, on the MA&D Message Board, I got banned again, because one of the head Moderators over there, most likely either Juliann or Dan G., recognized me as Brackite.
