Mormon Name Generator

Post by _KimberlyAnn »

I saw this over on RfM.

I plugged my name into the Mormon Name Generator and it dubbed me Kymberlyn Confederate America. I've no idea why and cannot imagine folks in Utah would really name their children such odd things as what the Mormon Name Generator produces, though a friend of mine from Provo says Utah Mormon names can be quite creative...

Anyway, here's a snippet from the site:

They're a funny old bunch, those latter day saints. Rather than picking names from their heritage, or the Bible, the Utah Mormons tend to make them up. Sometimes they'll combine the parents' names into one (BenDonna, for example). Other times it's impossible to quite understand what their parents were thinking; names like Zestpool and Zon'tl aren't uncommon.

We can understand why you might be jealous of names like these. After all, they are far more interesting and exciting than your own. Luckily, help is at hand with the Mormon Name Generator; simply indicate your first name, last name and your gender preference below, and we'll Mormonise your moniker.

To Utah Mormonize your name, go here:

Return and report.

Thanks, Moksha and Jersey Girl!

Jersey Girl, your Utah Mormonized name is hilarious!

You Zesty Chinchillita, you! (Sounds like something new at Taco Bell!)

My husband's Mormonized name is Tacoma Calhoun. He likes it so much, I think he wants to make it official, lol!

Kayleena Jacketta !

I've not found any stereotypes amongst Mormon names. Perhaps this is a Utah thing. Aside from Book of Mormon names I've not noticed anything unusual.

I LOVE your new picture!!

Yeah, Mishie, I haven't noticed anything peculiar about the names Mormons give their children, either, but I've heard several folks make mention of the odd names in Utah. I really don't know.

I'm glad you like the picture; it came from your camera! You could crop your face from that shot and use it as your avatar. You look adorable drunk! :P

I used my 'barrelomonkeys' and got:

My Mormon name is Barbeli Mormon Beauty

That almost makes me want to join! Barbeli sounds like a cave girl that would run around in slinky skins with tanned legs peeking out and of course I'd be a Mormon beauty! Woo.

KA, your picture is very nice.

If I could go to temple like this I'd be in:

OMG...you two (MishMag and KA) do NOT know the deal with Utah names, a deal I know only toooo toooo well. There are some crazy traditions about Utah Mormons. I think that perhaps some of this has died out but back in the day, before you young whippersnappers arrived, back in MY day, blah blah blah, you would always run into these:

1) Name that is a mash of dad and mom. Famous example, football player and actor Merlin Olson. Dad's name was Lynn, Mom's was Meryl. Girl I knew in Jr. High: Robina. Mom's name was Lavina, Dad was Robert.

2) Feminized version of Dad's name made by adding "La" prefix or "a" suffix or sometimes both: LaDon, LaDonna, LaVerna, Laverl, Lawilla ( this one is a cousin).

3) Families with rhyming kid's names. I worked with a nice man named Lloyd once. He had sons, Floyd and Cloyd. A variation is the family with all children's names starting with the same letter or producing the same initials with middle names. My full name and my next brothers name follow this one---for some reason when my youngest brother was born my parentst stopped this

I'm sure I can think of some more good examples, later.

I've seen the "Mormon name generator" before and while I like the idea of it, I think its way off in practice. I just did mine and while the first name is "accurate" the last part stretches the boundaries of satire:

"LaMina Busbyberkly Jukebox-Jezabel"
From the Ernest L. Wilkinson Diaries: "ELW dreams he's spattered w/ grease. Hundreds steal his greasy pants."
