Spencer W. Kimball stated the following about Navajo children placed with WHITE (not PURE, but WHITE) affluent Mormon families:

“The day of the Lamanites is nigh. For years they have been growing delightsome, and they are now becoming white and delightsome, as they were promised. In this picture of the twenty Lamanite missionaries, fifteen of the twenty were as light as Anglos;...The children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation.” (Improvement Era, December 1960, p922-923)

I guess this so-called Prophet of God just didn’t know what he was talking about. That whole time they were placing Navajos with WHITE Mormon families, they were making a mistake. Those were not REALLY Lamanites, no, not really.

But according to FARMS (oops, Maxwell Institute) and our resident rabid TBM Charity, we should ignore everything said by prior Mormon leaders, and go with what is being said now.

I think it is such a goddamn slap in the face.

Unlearn what you have learned. Stop thinking that way. Stop reading that material that teaches you wrong things, even if those things were written by Mormon leaders (who now of course, were speaking and acting as men). This is the new way to think.

You know, I should have seen this coming. I can go back three years on the Mormon Curtain and watch the DNA fallout. Watch the boys at FARMS back peddle and go into the “Limited Geography Theory”.

It reminds me of Gordy Hinkster, that “I don’t know that we teach that” swindler.

Last I checked, the Navajo self-identify to be of Siberian descent.

Another example of seeing through a glass darkly, Infymus. What I don't understand is why this correction is so bad? I mean, after umpteen years, the church has finally corrected itself. in my opinion, this can only be a step in the right direction. It means they've heard people like you and like me complain about the way things were. So they changed them and you're still complaining?

In fact, if we define "Lamanite" as "anyone who isn't a Nephite" (which seems to be the operating definition for apologists these days), then everyone in the world born after 400 AD is a Lamanite. So that would include the Navajos.

I hadn't heard this latest idea.

I was under the impression (from apologists, not the traditional LDS belief held for the past 150 years) that the Nephites and Lamanites comprised a very small little tribal group of folks who lived virtually unknown in Mesoamerica among the Maya. A few dozen familes or so.... The Nephites all died in their neighborhood squabble and the few remaining Lamanites sort of blended in with the larger community.

Hmmm... what did I miss here? ;-)
