I can't help it - I'm utterly amazed at the thread over on MAD about whether dinosaurs and men lived together. Amazingly, many of the LDS on the board either believe that it's possible that they did, or they are not willing to say that it is impossible.

Can these people be real, or are they just putting us on?

Why exactly would one have to be kidding about this? It's clear that many ancient cultures have legends of giant lizards such as dragons which are very similiar to Dinosaurs. There has to be some reason for this. Is it really that improbable some humans had an experience with dinosaur? Simply because science hasnt concluded it so doesn't mean its not possible.

Its just as possible that the ancient cultures found dinosaur fossils and tried to explain them with the stories of dragons as well. But to discount something simply because we have no evidence outside the legends is silly. After all the legends are evidence that something happened. Because there must have been some sort of event whether finding fossils, or direct experience with the "dragons" that inspire the stories.

You can usually find some sort of truth in all stories.

I recently read a compelling scholarly account of discoveries of dinosaurs much later than previously known. I don't remember the name of the article, but the authors were Marshall, Will, and Holly.

The PTL Club does a show from time to time about the evidence of man mingling w/Barney's friends. They show pics and castes of manprints and dino paws together. I suppose there is a compelling edge to it.

As I recall, the whole purpose for the program is to prove that adam and the rest of the critters lived with the trinstinctoplots because the earth is pretty much only 7 thousand years old.

Some have softened their stance to say that they're not ruling anything out. But just the fact that they believe that the timelines intersect astounds me, particularly the reasoning of "the idea of dragons must have come from somewhere, so there must have been dinosaurs around with people." Yeesh.

Many fundamental EVs believe that man and dinosaurs co-existed. I was listening to Calvary Chapel's Pastor's Perspective, a call in radio show where you an ask Bible questions, a few nights ago while driving home and this very issue came up. The Christian calling basically said he believed in evolution and did figured it was pretty much a given and that Genesis had to be understood in a different light. The pastors on the radio were actually rather condescending and talked up a lot of books that supposedly debunk evolution. This man and dinosaur on earth at the same time was one things they talked about-the paintings on cave walls with men and dinosaurs, men footprints fossilized along with dinosaur footprints and so on. They said that in Job it talks of Leviathan which was most likely a dinosaur. These fellows really believed all this. So, ya know, you may think Mormons are damned weird for the Missouri issue and many EVs even mock Mormons for this. But EVs are just as "odd" on a lot of issues.

Just so you know, I do not think "Mormons are damned weird for the Missouri issue."

I think humans are amazing in what they can believe. I find belief an incredible subject and actually think there is evolutionary purpose to belief. So, it is not that I think Mormons are weird, or EVs or Scientologists, or Ralians, or whomever.

It is more about how weird humans are for the ability to believe all sorts of things.

I'm just saying if someone can believe the Earth is 6,000 years old, that the Garden of Eden was in Missouri, that humans were placed on the Earth from another planet, or whatever, then they can most certainly believe Dinosaurs lived recently right along with humans.

I don't think I have ever heard of finding a 65 million year old human fossil. I have heard around 10 million year old monkey type creature but that is about a - 55 million years after the big one hit the earth.

I heard the arguement made that the dinosaurs likely died in the Great Flood, sine they are all found deep in the mud, and often found grouped together as if they were washed along in a pile.
