Romney's speech will not get into specifics about LDS beliefs but will speak on freedom of religion in America. I'm listening to the Bill Bennett show and he said he read the speech and was disappointed it in. He and callers wanted more specifics on LDS beliefs.

This should come as no surprise to anyone. My guess is even Orrin Hatch will be disappointed.

Interviewer: Could you please help us understand LDS belief?
Mitt: Of course.
We DO believe in polygamy but cannot engage in the practice at this time.
God did NOT want men with dark skin with descendants from Africa to have the priesthood but he does now.
God sill does not allow women of any race to have the priesthood.
Yes, you must be a member of the LDS church to live with God, but you can be baptized and have the rituals performed for you after you are dead.
No we do not allow women to participate in leadership callings outside of the woman's and children's organizations.
Yes, people must pay 10% of their money to the church in order to go to the temple.
No, if you drink tea or coffee you cannot receive the required ordinances to live with God.
No, non-believers, children, and those with many disabilities cannot witness their loved ones get married in the temple.
Yes, Joseph Smith looked into a hat to translate the golden plates.
Yes, Joseph Smith crowed himself King and wanted to establish a theocracy.
Yes, Joseph Smith sent men off on missions and secretly married their wives.
Yes, married thirty something, Joseph Smith "married" a fourteen year old girl, along with several other teenagers.
Yes, Adam and Eve lived in Missouri and Christ will return there.
Yes, God was once a man like us, and righteous members will someday become Gods and Goddesses like God.
Yes, I wear sacred under garments, no I will not discuss the blessings associated with them.
Don't think so! :-)
My guess...Mitt will talk about faith, the Bible, his belief in God, the Savior, prayer, America and freedom to worship as we wish, his love for his family, his strong marriage, this time of year to celebrate the birth of Jesus, etc.
At least if I were in his situation I would discuss the above.

I think Moksha (sp?) nailed it a couple days ago.
"It will all be Mitt before Meat."
He will never say anything substantial about Mormonism because he can't. It is a friggin can of worms. Anything said will only lead to more confusion. He will try very hard to make himself look like a Christian, when he is actually a Joseph Smith worshiper.
If only the hard questions could be asked, but he will control the environment anyway.
I'll never vote for him, ever.
Last night on the news they brought up Kennedy's Texas speech about his religion. How can you compare the two? I found it ludicrous.
Don't judge Romney on what his religion is, but what he can do for America?
If Romney is elected President of the United States, the Mormon Corporation will bang that drum endlessly. How wonderful, how marvelous! Lets all go out and wave our white hankies!
What a mess.

He's apparently stated that
when he takes the Presidential Oath of Office, that will be his
highest oath to God.

If Mitt won't address the things people have heard about Mormons the natural response is going to be going on-line to find out themselves. That won't be good for Mitt or for the church. I have looked up 'polygamy' on the church site and have gotten D&C 132, the Manifesto and a statement staying the church did practice it, including the early prophets.
People that are likely to hold Mitt's religion against him are going to find those reasons really quickly.
Amazingly I've gotten over it. I think it would be good to get it all out in the open. The farther Mitt goes the more this is going to happen.

They don't have handicap facilities to allow for handicap people in the temple? I was pretty sure they did.

What a great opportunity for Mitt to bear his testimony to the world:
I know the church is true
I know Joseph Smith was a true prophet
I know the Book of Mormon is the word of god
I know the LDS church is the only church on earth that can provide a way for me to live with my family and god for eternity
I know this with every fiber of my being
ITNOJC, amen.
I can't wait to hear it.

He is a Christian. Mormons are Christian. Not orthodox Christians but Christians none the less.
I'll never vote for him, ever.
Why? Becuase he is Mormon or because you do not like his politics? Would you vote for Harry Reid?
Last night on the news they brought up Kennedy's Texas speech about his religion. How can you compare the two? I found it ludicrous.
It is absolutely a valid comparison. People were nervous and some bigoted about a Catholic president, that he would take m,arching order from Rome and as well as other things that the majority protestant religion found repugnant. Romney is in the same boat. I agree that some questions about his religion are fair. Since the LDS have a strong hierarchy he should settle concerned about him being independent from them and following his own consciouses. But over all people should vote on a candidates based on the person, their political views, their trakc record and so on, whether they are Mormon, Jew, Catholiuc, Baptist, Muslim or atheist.
Don't judge Romney on what his religion is, but what he can do for America?
Yea dork you finally got it, just leave off the question mark.
If Romney is elected President of the United States, the Mormon Corporation will bang that drum endlessly. How wonderful, how marvelous! Lets all go out and wave our white hankies!
Only in your bitter exmo dreams.

I don't think that Romney's religious affiliations should be held against him as far as his candidacy. His flip-flopping on issues should be, though.
Romney is desperately trying to pander to the religious right and is not doing very well.
Of course, Hillary has her own mess to deal with on the Democrat side. She's trying to keep the fringe leftists in place, too.
If the Republicans are smart, they will elect Guilliani as the candidate. He's much more moderate and has been up front about his policies. I have quite a few Democrat friends who would vote for Guilliani over Hillary in a general election. I think he would have a better chance of beating her than Romney would.
