Glenn Beck, Good Morning America, and Puzzle Pieces

CNN commentator Glenn Beck (who is a recent convert to Mormonism) is on ABC's Good Morning America this morning defending the faith in advance of Mitt Romney's speech later today.

In the last few minutes, in response to a question Diane Sawyer posed to him about whether or not Mormons regarded their church to be the "one true faith," he completely stepped away from that stance, and said that the LDS Church's point of view is one that all faiths should adopt--that they all (all religions) have pieces of the puzzle, and none of them is the "true church," and that until they're all put together, none has a complete picture of God.

WTH? (I would have said something else, but didn't want to send this to another forum.)

The LDS Church doesn't believe it's THE ONE TRUE CHURCH ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH?

That's news to about 12 million+ members.

He also parroted the line, "If you want to know about Mormonism, ask a Mormon." Uh-huh. How about, "Ask a Mormon who actually knows what they're talking about." Or maybe, "Ask a Mormon who's willing to tell you the truth."

Oh, and Glenn is going to be talking to Jesus later today.

The more I hear Glenn Beck, the more I realize he either doesn't have a clue what this religion is he's joined, or he's just baldfaced dishonest in the face of being interviewed about it.

The poll was added at the last minute before posting this topic.

What say ye? Do Mormons believe they're the "one true church?" Yeah or nay?

Is there anyone here who wasn't taught that, if Mormon past or present?

Doctrine and Covenants 1:30 seems pretty clear on that score.

Wow!

Yeah! Or.... maybe the church is changing its opinion on this issue?

Hmmm....

Why not? Sure. [/cough]

And why is Glenn Beck suddenly the in-your-face spokesperson for Mormonism?

Because he is famous.

That was stupid of Beck to sidestep the issue. It's obvious he either doesn't know what he's talking about, or just didn't know how to effectively answer the question.

Yes, LDS believe that it is the one true Church.

What I was always taught was that other religions do have "pieces of the puzzle" and some truths, but that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a culmination of all of those truths. We should not put down others for their beliefs, but yes, we do believe that ours is the one true Church.

That being said, however, what Church doesn't believe that theirs is the most correct church?

I think there is a difference between, "most correct," and, "the one and only true church upon the Earth, with the power of God, directed by Jesus Christ himself." Ya know? ;-)

That being said, much of the world doesn't believe in a "one and only true church" idea at all.

Don't some of the more mainstream religions such as Catholicism, Lutherens, Baptists, etc. feel this way, though? I could be wrong.

My understanding is that baptism is honored by the various mainstream Christian religions regardless of which church it is in.

In other words, the Catholics honor the baptism of Lutherns, and Methodists honor the baptism of Catholics, etc. etc.

Last I heard no mainstream religion honors as valid the LDS baptism.

I could be wrong but this is what I have been told by various folks in these religions.
