Yes, but in fairness he did spell out exactly why it was bland on what Mormonism is. Specifically, it was to avoid the religious test for office which is prohibited by the Constitution.

I was a rather annoyed by the blatant falsehoods delivered merely to impress the Evangelicals and the Religious Right, I admit. If I have my facts straight, they're falling all over that speech right now, since he gave them (false) reasons to feel good about themselves. As has been pointed out elsewhere, he doesn't need the Atheist vote, so it was okay to alienate them. It doesn't make me feel any better about it, though.
