Perhaps you can clear something up for me. Over on another thread, Ray A has been bashing me, saying I am dishonest and etc. over a question I asked him. I pointed out to him that DCP & his pals over at SHIELDS had posted some of your emails, along with your in real life name. By any chance, did they get your permission to post that material? Also, had you posted your in real life name elsewhere, or were they, in effect, "outing" you?
Just curious....
No single person at SHIELDS ever asked me for my permission to post my emails on SHIELDS. The correspondence was solely with Daniel C. Peterson, and he took those emails to SHIELDS where they now reside.
I do not know if it was Daniel who wrote this, but this is the header:
""The Mormon Curtain" is an anti-Mormon blog site. The curator of the site calls himself "Infymus." His real name is (Moderator Note)in real life information removed.. "
I do state my real name on the Mormon Curtain. I have no qualms with that and openly admit freely that I run and maintain the site.
If you look at this section of the Mormon Curtain: http://www.mormoncurtain.com/section_faq.html you will see that I do freely give out my name.
Q: Who runs this site?
A: Infymus a.k.a. (Moderator Note)in real life information removed runs this site. He lives in Salt Lake City where he works as a Software Development Manager and Software Engineer. Married with two children. Resigned from the Mormon Corporation in 23 July 2001 and received his confirmation of resignation 28 August 2001.
The rest of the SHIELDS piece is thus:
"The site seems to be a location where critics of the LDS Church can toot their own horn and speak in demeaning and sarcastic ways, both to garner attention to themselves and to draw feigned sympathy. Intelligent readers can discern such nonsense for exactly what it is, but unfortunately there are those who do not understand the whole picture and can be deceived by these folks. Trying to keep up with a blog is a full time job in itself. We shall not attempt to do so, but will post items from time to time that may demonstrate the base prejudices and insecurities of these folks. Some are college professors and professionals in the media, but speak in taunting and demeaning terms as if they were still were still in grade school. This alone should demonstrate the level of their abilities."
The last paragraph I believe Daniel was taking pot shots at Steve Benson.
Daniel went on to completely post all of the emails between us, censoring out the portion where I asked him that while during sex, does he call out his own name?

Personally I don't care about SHIELDS. I find it to be a sandbox where DCP and other apologists can go and write the things they wouldn't necessarily write on FARMS/MAAD or their other sites.
But to answer your original question, I don't think that DCP or others were out to smear. I think they played the bait and run game that most Mormons do. Daniel incessantly emailed me and finally I got sick of it and told him to go to hell. He took that and ran with it in his hands, "See what that nasty Ex-Mo wrote!" I see this stuff all the time with Mormons. They have to prove that Ex-Mos are nasty, bitter, hateful people - it helps them remain Mormon.
This is very intriguing, and I wonder if others have experienced this sort of thing. I know that DCP apparently sent a series of obsessed, out-of-control email rants to Rollo Tomasi following "Quinngate," but has he done this to other critics, too? Certainly, in the various recent Yme threads, it definitely seemed like a "setup" was underway after a certain point---i.e., after people figured out that Yme wasn't going to be able to deliver the coup de grace, they started circling like vultures.
