Since Ray is doling out his "words of wisdom" on various threads here, I thought I'd share this especially juicy nugget which he PMed to me after one of our recent spats:

You don't get it, Scratch, day by day, week by week, post by post, you will turn Mormon posters into the very thing you don't want them to become. Just look at Will's past comments to you, for example. Way to go, old boy (boy?). I don't attack them, and they often listen to what I have to say.

Now, is it just me, or does Ray seem pretty darn-tootin' condescending here? I don't know about anyone else, but I am super interested in seeing the real evidence that TBM's "often" listen to "what he [has] to say"! His endless flip-flopping and hypocrisy are really quite stunning. In any case, I suppose I will crawl back into my hole, since I am such a "sad and pathetic human being." Boo hoo!

I need to be warm. Why won't these people put the heating on? I pay for heat, yet I think I might be paying for hypothermia or something to that effect. It sucks. I could cry, it is that cold. Or maybe it would be more correct to say that, it is that cold, I could cry. Och well. I am shivering. I think I ought to go see the warden tomorow, if I am not dead by then. Maybe I shouldn't say that, but it is said now. Argh.##

You really are a very sad, and pathetic person. And your desperation shows. I'm not afraid to say on this forum what I said in my PMs to you, Scratch, and I was quite aware that you might post this. Others have caught me by surprise, but you haven't. While this doesn't concern me, I will warn all others, including Scratch's "informants": If you criticise Scratch, he will stab you in the back. This is a man so destitute of substance in argument that he has to be a traitor to gain credibility. He simply cannot be trusted.

Now note, Shades, on his honour, says he doesn't read PMs. Scratch posts them. Can you imagine Scratch operating as a moderator here? Now remember, too, Scratch is the one who criticised MAD mods for reading PMs. To him, this is "unprincipled", but he has no qualms posting private messages and emails!

Let me reiterate what I wrote:

Actually, Ray, I think that your message is quite relevant, since it shows you in full-blown, TBM-priesthood-holding-male mode. You clearly see yourself in this sort of "holier than thou" fashion, whereby you get to play arbiter between the TBMs and the critics. Do you have the credibility to carry out this task, though? Your penchant for hypocrisy, flip-flopping, and uncontrollable outbursts of rage have been well-documented. So, is it worth stepping back for a moment, and considering whether your remarks, in the "War" thread, are really merited? I think it is.

Please, Ray, I'd be pleased to learn of these many instances where TBMs listen to you "often." You see, the trouble is that TBMs and Mopologists never ever make any concessions. Do you have anything to say about that? No. Of course you don't. Instead, you merely fall back on your condescension, essentially becoming a rather better-spoken version of Wade Englund.

That's not true. Liz, for example, has criticized me many times, and where is my so-called "betrayal" of her? I have posted PM or email material a grand total of 3 times, and I had a good reason for posting the stuff in every single instance. You seem to be neatly overlooking that fact that you hounded me up and down the board rather relentlessly for weeks. Now that some punishment has been meted out back towards you, you fall back to this "holier than thou" silliness.

The fact that you cannot understand the difference between these two things doesn't really help you out, mate, in your apparent quest to become the "Gandhi" of Internet Mormonism.
