Heartache? Can I point out you've been posting on a message board for 2 days. It's not like a spouse just left you or a child has been excommunicated in a court of love.

Hey Ray, consider I might be doing Jskains a favor. As he himself has claimed, no one, member, critic, or apologist has ever understood him online and these battles he goes through cause him constant "heartache". Then consider in real life, he's happily married with a kid on the way, is a UNIX admin (a respectable career), and attends a ward where he's accepted very well and has found a place to raise his family in peace. It might just be the case, as he himself has strongly implied, that something just goes horribly wrong as soon as Mozilla fires up and his online persona is a terrible translation of the real-life Jskains. Most of us could use more time away from message boards I'm sure, but it might be the case that for jskains, if he gets offended and never comes back, it's strongly in his self interest.

You'll all excuse me if my "who the hell cares" factor is a bit high right now, but I did take a moment to search on josh's posts and what I see is not surprising. It looks to me as if he remained on topic in various threads until someone decided to post background information on him.

What the hell is the pathological need of posters on these boards to dig back into archives or discuss events from years ago when someone starts posting here in order to throw dirt on them before they've even started? Slander them going in before they've had a chance to contribute their thoughts and ideas?

Is there no possible way for people to quit the gossip mongering and get on an actual topic around here? Isn't that in and of itself, a form of censorship? Since when is pre-emptive character assassination a legitimate form of topical discussion?

Josh, when I looked at your post history here, I noticed that you and your Mrs. are expecting a baby. My best to you as a new Dad! If you change your mind about continuing the Celestial thread that you started, I'll try to make time to continue it. I'll check in here to see.

Beyond that, I'll be scarce for a while too. This was outrageously disgusting.

I agree that something went "horribly wrong" here, but it wasn't coming from josh's keyboard. It would be refreshing if someone here were to take time to see what went on and tell the truth about what took place. The guy started posting on topic and was met with a group of posters acting nearly in concert as a slander/gossip machine.

You ought to try taking the time to see what went on yourself. This all started on the FAIR thread, when Josh responded to the old story about FAIR rejecting him by explaining that in "all of his years online, no one ever wanted to know him", and "everyone demonizes him". This, in combination with his tendency to be combative and then get angry with people who are combative in return*, in combination with his past problems that he discussed himself on the internet, created a red flag. I made a genuine recommendation to him that he get help. All the rest - the "slander gossip" machine - was to put my comments in context and defend myself when Josh lashed out at me for telling him to get help. Supposedly my telling him to get help was a horrible, libelous, malicious thing to do. What I do agree on now, given his reaction, was that it was a stupid thing to do. I should have just averted my eyes, looked the other way, pretended that everything was okey-dokey.

*for a current example of this tendency, to behave in an obviously combative way and then get very angry when people respond with combative language of their own, see richardmd's response thread to Josh, and Josh's reaction to Richard.

Just STFU, sit down and relax. The poor me card doesn't work and threatening to leave isn't going to change anything. You can't come in here and expect to make everyone in here behave how you want them to. There is no such thing as a level playing field in discussion forums. This ain't football. Everyone is going to have their own opinion and belief, so just deal with it.

I have read everything you've posted here since you came in like a hurricane this week. I haven't seen anything that could be termed "hateful" or "nasty". Personally I think you've tried to push your view or agenda, and when it got rejected, suddenly everyone is hateful and nasty. Welcome to the real world dude. This isn't a support board for Mormon Inc. and though I feel it was originally a haven for disaffected FAIR/MAD posters, it has come into its own since then and settled down.

So take a bong hit, sit down, and relax with the crowd. It isn't as bad as you perceive it to be.
