With a son turning 8 in a few weeks, it's baptism time in the Who Knows household. So with that, brings the wonderful experience of the sobbing parents - since daddy isn't doing the baptism, and grandpa (my dad) is, instead. The joyous times of christmas and the new year are behind us. It's time, instead, to focus on the tragedy that is Who Knows' loss of faith, and dissapointment to his family.

isn't' it great. It's not good enough that they are allowed to believe what they want. Nope, they aren't happy until everyone else believes exactly the same as they do. Don't be too hard on them. They are taught in church that you will return to the fold someday, they just need to give you time.

Is your son upset about you not doing the baptism? Hopefully, your extended family can at least make this a joyful experience for your son, which it should be. Maybe you can focus on what a neat thing it is to have Grandpa doing it? Hopefully, it will at least be a positive experience for your son that way.

My husband and I chose to have our grandfathers, rather than our fathers, be the witnesses at our weddings. It wasn't that our fathers weren't there, or worthy, we just thought it would be nice to honor them that way. It turned out that our wedding was the last one either one of them witnessed before passing away, so it made it special.

I know this is a trying time, and that you have made decisions to go ahead and let your son be baptized. My heart and prayers go with you. I hope that you can make this a special day for your son.

I'm sorry your family members are overdramatic. My husband baptized one of our granddaughters because the father is no longer TBM. It was a great occasion. Nobody sniffed and cried.

Tell you wife for me to grow up and stop acting like a melodramatic teenager. It is what it is, and whining isn't going to make it better.

Oh, yes, and you can also tell her that everything works out all right in the end. If it isn't all right now, it's because it isn't the end.

Nah, I don't think so. He's known for a long time... Plus, for kids that age - it's only as big a deal as everyone else makes it out to be.

I've had probably a grand total of 6 or 7 in the last year. Mainly just local (utah) stuff. And no, if that were the only reason, it most definitely would not be worth it. :)

My wife's totally cool with it all. She's not even really TBM any more. She's more of a 'social' member nowadays. It's my parents and other family members that are the problem. I fear telling them to 'grow up' might not be the best approach...

Yeah, that's the part that's always tricky. Maybe you can have a heart to heart with them about how they should be focusing on your son's special day?
