Just in case anyone missed this story,

Woman shot to death outside church.

The short version, the couple were going through a divorce. She had filed a protective order on him last month. He showed up at her church and without saying a word, fired multiple shots at close range, killing her instantly. He turned himself in an hour later. They leave behind two children, 3 and 18 months.

How very sad.

Two small children now without parents. What a tragedy.

The dude was a recent ex-mormon. I expect Ray to chime in any time now...

I don't chime in on anything until I have all the facts. This happens in Australia too often. I've been through divorce, and I know how people in this situation feel. Sometimes one person acts out what a thousand others feel like doing. In a case years ago a man shot his estranged wife dead right outside the family court.

Nothing can justify cold blooded murder like this. Nothing can justify violence either. In my case, I let events take their course (never made threats or did violence, and even sought contact with my ex for the sake of the children), and in the end I got everything back, my children, and now even a rising bank account (after seven years of bankruptcy).

The dead woman is a tragic event, in itself, and the children now have no parents to raise them. I am not the judge of the man, but even with all that he will have to face, including the possibility of the death penalty (?), he's going to have to go through a living hell. He will replay that moment over and over, and wish he could have a time machine to reverse the event.

I have to imagine he was already going through a living hell prior to the shooting. What a sad situation.

I hope there is a relative that can take the children. How terrible if they not only lose their parents, but have to enter the maze of social services as well. The fact that he turned himself in an hour later really has me confused. How could he possible have the state of mind to know he had done something wrong, and needed to turn himself in, but couldn't (or wouldn't) realize the price this would pay on his children (and his wife for that matter).

The selfishness of humans is amazing sometimes.

Very very sad.

On average more than three women are killed by their husbands or boyfriends every single day in this country.

My heart goes out to the families and children so hurt by this heartwrenching event.

How very sad. The article doesn't mention if the children were witness to the act. I certainly hope they weren't.

Do you think those children would be better off, on the streets? Social services, including foster care, provides a valuable necessity for children whose parents are unable to care for them for whatever reason (death and jail come to mind). It's definitely not a perfect system, but it's certainly better than the alternative.
