I know who the 12 are, but how did they get to where they are?

For example, someone said Packer was a CES teacher when he was called. So... who did he know? What made him stand out from the crowd? Who is he related to?

Who is related to who? Who knew who, before they were called?

Perhaps this is too big a question.

Packer was one of Harold B. Lee's proteges. He was in charge of seminaries and institutes before being named an apostle.

Russell Nelson was President Kimball's physician.

Joseph B. Wirthlin is GBH's cousin (the B in both names standing for Bitner).

Henry Eyring is the son of U of U grad school dean Henry Eyring, and is the nephew of Camilla Kimball.

Robert D. Hales was CEO of Chesebrough-Pond.

Wasn’t it J. Golden Kimball that said something about the ways that someone is called… there is relation and revelation. The former sometimes Trump's the latter.

Edited to add: You may look at this as the world does, and think this means that these are the way people are graded--ex number of points if you are an apostles, 1 less point if you are a seventy, one less if you are a regional rep, on down to the lowly member who gets the fewest number of points. That isn't God's system. The faithful member without a calling in the Church may still inherit all the God has, as well as the prophet may. We respect our leaders. We respect every one of our brothers and sisters.
