Yesterday, the stake president spoke to our ward on the new 'stake theme for the year' (they have a different theme each year). The theme this year is about temples. I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention, but then he said something that made my ears perk up. He said he gets a report from the temple president on the members that have attended the temple. Right before this, he was talking about ward temple trips. So I'm not quite sure if he was just referring to those ward temple trips, or temple attendance in general.

I just thought this was interesting as some were speculating the new 'bar-coded' recommends would enable tracking of temple attendance.

Anyone else heard anything about this?

I wonder what they think they can do when they find out someone hasn't gone for several years? I'm sure it'll involve some sort of guilt tripping.

What difference will it make? Those who want to go, go now. Those who don't want to go find a reason, a very good reason, why they can't go. Those who feel guilty about not going will continue to feel guilty and not go. Those who don't, won't.

You should listen more closely. Even with the new bar coded temple recommends, neither bishops nor stake presidents receive any reports back on who attends when. There is not even any way to track how many people from any specific ward or stake attend on special "temple days." They might take a count at the chapel session, but then the stake president is there and sees that and doesn't need the temple president to tell him.

So you're calling Who Knows' stake president a liar? Or are you calling Who Knows a liar? He said the stake president said he gets a report on temple attendance. You say there is no such report. Someone isn't right.

Um, i know what i heard. He said specifically that he gets a report from the temple president listing the attendees by ward. He even said how it made him sad to just see the same people going all the time. He said that he wanted to see some new names on the list.

Again, whether he was specifically referring to ward temple trips or not, I'm not sure. But I am sure of the fact that he said he gets a listing of attendees from the temple president.

You don't know what reports an SP or bishop gets about the temple -- it would be very, very easy with the new barcodes to generate a report of who attended the temple.

So what. If a report is sent to local leaders I doubt you would know about it.

Charity, you're simply wrong.

Even way back when I was still active, we used to hear how many endowments and sealings members of the ward had performed. How on earth could the bishops know that detail if the temples weren't tracking attendance by ward; how could they track attendance by ward if they weren't tracking by name?

So what did he miss? And was the stake president referring to ward temple trips? Who Knows doesn't know because he wasn't listening!

You are sure quick to jump on things I DON"T say. And all this after that lovely little sermon on repentance you delivered. If I could find that topioc without reading through a lot I would respond to that. But you sure need a sermon on judging without basis.

I, and my stake president, say otherwise. I wasn't listening to the whole talk, but like i said, i started listening once he started talking about this list that he gets from the temple, and how he wanted to see everyone's names on that list.

Anyhoo, maybe someday someone will corroborate what I'm saying. Until then, take it or leave it.
