I'm glad I never had a testimony of polygamy

I remember pleading with God to help me understand Joseph's rather messy practice of polygamy, or at least for Him to reassure me that whatever happened was OK, whether or not I understood it. Never happened. I never got past that horrible feeling inside that said it was wrong and that I ought not to defend it. The farthest I got was just simply choosing to ignore it because it did not pertain to my salvation.

I shelved it for a good ten years, but the shelf collapsed. I can't imagine myself saying what other have said: Sure, I would have given my teenaged daughter to Joseph; It must have been right because a prophet wouldn't do something wrong; you are just a neo-Victorian prude.

There's very little as valuable as a clear conscience.

When I was investigating the church and asked about polygamy I was told that when the saints were traveling west and men died, another man and his family took in the widow and her children. It was not until years after I joined the church that I fully understood Joseph Smith and his position on polygamy.

I don't know how families dealt with this situation - I suppose when you think you're doing it (giving up your daughter/wife/sister) that you are doing it for the benefit of the whole.

I believe that members in general do not fully understand church history and that polygamy played a pronounced role in the early years of the church.

You're a neo-Victorian prude.

Since the Church has abandoned the practice of polygamy, I see no reason why members need to support the concept of polygamy. As men, we know that many thoughts come to us from our own flaming swords, yet we need not hold them as theology.

Well, that's upsetting. There goes one of my favorite means of getting revelation.

If the polygamy were valid in the OnlyTrue, I were a member.
(This fits in the "go back" thread, too)

No worries for Nehor being forced to practice polygamy.

With the amount of time(especially the evenings) he spends on this and the M&AD House, he will be luck to even have a slight chance at practicing monogamy!

The practice was suspended on earth only, not abandoned.
