Interesting prohibitions

Post by _harmony »

I came across this after I followed Shades' link, and it got me to thinking about interesting prohibitions.

1. Is there a prohibition against being or using Mormon sperm donors? Are there guidelines?

2. Is there a prohibition against Mormon surrogate mothers?

Under what conditions would either of those be okay? prohibited?

How deep is the prohibition? Is either an excommunicatable offense?

I think most of those questions are addressed in the Church Handbook of Instructions. Rollo, what are the answers?
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

I won't comment on official policy, but this is too funny not to share.

We were having a 5th Sunday adult meeting during third hour and the bishop was fielding questions. Someone aske dther question about A.I., and one of the young mothers, holdintg her 4 month old, said, "I was articially inseminated." Her husband, fairly yelled, "YOU WERE NOT!" Then she explained that she meant her mother was and that was how she was conceived. It was hard to maintain composure, and the bishop smiled and said, "Well, Sister X, we are glad you are here."

LOL!

I'm sure her husband was, too.

That's a pretty funny story. Still, the man's got a point - credit where credit is due. ;-)
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

GHBI Vol 1 Page 188:

The donation of sperm is strongly discouraged.

2. Is there a prohibition against Mormon surrogate mothers?

Surrogate motherhood is strongly discouraged.
Under what conditions would either of those be okay? prohibited?

While the handbook says strongly discouraged it seems that it is up to the person to decide.

No neither would cause a member to be ex'd. Neither are even mentioned in the section on discipline.

What, exactly, does "strongly discouraged" mean? Or is this another example of Church duplicity?

Would Mrs Smith be allowed to give thanks in testmony meeting how grateful she was that her sister could carry little Joseph Oliver Wilford Smith to term.

Also, why would these practices be strongly discouraged?

Probably for the same reason why men getting a vasectomy is strongly discouraged. Which is probably also the reason why, whether formally or informally, men in leadership positions sporting beards is strongly discouraged. Because there are some opinionated SOBs in the leadership who think everyone ought to think about things the way they do.
