Mormon posters grasp at straws to discredit dissenter

Over at MADB Smac posted some excerpts about an LDS guy who publicly protested the Church's anti-gay policies. He and his wife resigned rather than be excommunicated. Smac admits that the Church's treatment of Danzig disappoints him, but apparently feels the need to defend it anyway. He takes some cheap shots at Danzig. Other posters immediately started piling on with some even lower blows, questioning Danzig and his family's basic integrity and sincerity. This kind of thing irritates me more than anything else in the world. The view that one cannot question one's ecclesiastical leaders is Medieval, anti-intellectual, and just begs for abuse.

It's a pretty despicable display. "Well of course he must not have been a good member if he'd quit over something as meaningless as disagreeing with the leadership about the treatment of gays."
My favorite so far is the Evergreen shill.

There's never a good reason to leave. Even if you completely disagree with the church on everything, it's still not a good reason to leave, according to LDS. It seems to me the best reason to leave any organization (whether it's religious, political, the company you work for, etc.) is when you no longer believe in what it stands for.

It's sad to think that those who attack may end up with their grandkids being suicide bombers.

Didn't he quit because they were going to excommunicate him anyway? If so, then the MA&Dites' complaints about quitting "over something as meaningless as disagreeing with the leadership about the treatment of gays" rings quite hollow indeed.
By the way, what's the name of that thread so I can go read it?

Why would you expect church members to have any compassion whatsoever for a dissenter? Read the Book of Mormon: the dissenters are evil and out to destroy the church.

This is on the order of Mr. Scratch type heavy armament stuff that shows an abusive pattern of mistreatment.

Runtu, would you argree that abuse of dissenters needs to be exposed?

Exposed to whom? Apparently, a whole lot of members are perfectly fine with this kind of treatment of dissenters, if we can judge by the reaction over on MADB.

Forget about MAD. They make excuses. This matter on the other hand smacks of bungling and eclesiastial abuse. Not all members are like those defenders at MAD. I would dare say that most are of a good conscience and want to do what is right. Beyond that, there is the world at large, who are receptive to hearing about eclesiastical abuse and are sympathetic to those who have been silenced unjustly.
