Pearls and Swine Defined..

Honestly, I couldn't bet my life on what this means (I used to think I knew):

6 ¶ Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before
swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

(New Testament | Matthew 7:6)

After posting my reflections in Boaz's "blessings" thread I began to muse:

Specifically, what are the pearls and who are the swine?

CK,

I have no clue what that has to do with the thread, but after laughing so hard I have to go glue my butt back on.

Jesus H. Christ almighty Inc!

You come on this board and lament the lack of supporting evidence for all things LDS and I request the same concerning your miracles and now I am a swine?

Good god man go back to church, the one where you experienced miracles.

I don't have you pegged as a swine (others, no doubt, think you're the anti-JesusHChristalmighty). You asked some honest questions. I got no problem with that or your conclusions (just make your head stop spinning around - it's creepin me out).

That isn't where this is going.

The comic is called "pearls before swine". ;-)

Hello Inc,

I didn't read your remarks on the "blessings" thread so I'll just give my take on what you've posted above.

I think the pearls and the "holy things" are referring to the same things. In my view only, I think the pearls and holy things are the events in your life, including your perceived interaction with God, that are precious to you. For example, there are such things in my life, especially those that involve close loved ones where I believe/think/feel that God intervened. I would never leave those open for discussion on a board like this. I wouldn't want to see those precious events picked apart or speculation about my loved ones on this board.

Editing: I forgot to address who the swine are. :-) I would take that passage and interpret the "swine" as people who would be disprespectful of my expressions of faith in the above examples.

I hope that others give you serious replies here and that you'll share what your interpretation of this was.

Most sincerely,
Jersey Girl

This is along the same lines as religions being "off limits" to scrutiny. Why??

If you had a miraculous experience, why not let it stand or fall on it's own.

I've shared several things that I can't explain on this board. I have no clue if they mean anything, if I made it all up in my head, if my powers of recollection are altering the events or what. I know that I am a VERY fallible human being, subject to all the things fallible humans do. It's even possible that none of these events ever happened, and my subconscious made them up for some reason.

I'm in Inc's boat. I content not knowing.

Thanks Jersey Girl and Scottie,

If our spiritual events are too sacred to share, then why are Jesus and Joseph Smith's experiences trumpeted ad-nausium? Were their pearls any less sacred than say ours? I should think not. Or are we comfortable with this double standard?

Or have faith and miracles ceased (unless you include finding your car keys after heartfelt and fervent prayer)?

So who are the swine if everyone has access to the works of Jesus?

While I think over what you have written, would you identify what you see as Jesus' experiences? I'm not clear on what you're referring to, Inc.
