What happens with a worm's spirit when you cut it in half?

Post by _asbestosman »

This idea is actually Tidejwe's. I haven't heard his answer yet, but I thought it might be fun to throw the question out for everyone else to see what you think.

Similarly, what happens to the worm spirit if you don't completely cut the worm in half, but only partly in half longways so it grows two heads?

You have the insight, the skeptical tools, and an eye for absurdity but...you don't quite follow up and take the skeptical stance toward relgion. Why?
when believers want to give their claims more weight, they dress these claims up in scientific terms. When believers want to belittle atheism or secular humanism, they call it a "religion". -Beastie

As most worms are brown in color I think it goes back to hell where its fence-sitting ass belongs.

An extension of this question is the status of the soul in human clones - especially multiple human clones.

On the other hand, theologians must be at peace with identical twins.

I like absurdity.

Besides, now thanks to you I have to re-examine myself to see if I know the difference in believing in Iraq and believing in Kolob.

It's kinda of fun when we switch teams. You're a better player than I am.

LOL You stole the topic off my Instant message name and beat me to posting it asbestosman! That's cool. I think weird like this all the time too, so maybe that's why you and I get along so well. Anyway, I did start it in MADB with some added questions:

Here is the MADB discussion I started

Here are my questions that went along with it:

So we are told that ALL life has a spirit and intelligence, right?

So if I cut a worm in half and both sides live (or even wait a few more weeks and then cut the halves in half AGAIN to make the worm live in 4 pieces), what happened to the spirit? Do I have the power to cut a spirit in two by doing this? Did the original spirit stay in one half and a new spirit enter the new half? If so, why doesn't it have to start over in learning and experience? Both halves can be shown to carry experience from pre-separation. Did one half get possessed by a demon?

Similarly, if you claim you can split the worm's spirit somehow, then are you saying that if your arm gets cut off, the spirit part of the arm get cut off (at least temporarily) too? If not, then why are spirits reacting differently? Also is the spirit arm hanging down limp at your side, or straight and stiff? Does it suck back inside your body? Does that mean Spirit shape shifts (since it obviously changes density, etc as we grow up anyway)? If spirits shape shift, why does everyone think our spirits naturally look exactly like we do? Maybe there is no "natural" (default) form to spirit beings?

Or is the worm example a good way for other Christians to try to explain to Mormons how they view the Godhead. If we claim that a worm has 1 spirit and we cut that worm in 3 and all three parts live with a third of the same spirit, all being separate worms/entities with the same spirit of sorts in it...is that THEIR understanding of "God" so to speak?

Other similar examples could be cited, but this should suffice. I am interested to see others answers to the above questions (I have my own explanations/theories, but I want to gain insight from others too).

Grafting

Post by _asbestosman »

So what about grafting? What would have happened if Adam grafted a branch from the Tree of Life onto the Tree of Knowldge and visa-versa? What would the fruit of each be like?

Yeah, Tidejwe and I have having fun stirring some pots. Maybe not as much fun as smoking pots, but less likely to get us in trouble with the law.

Bacteria

Post by _asbestosman »

When bacteria undergo asexual reproduction, which halves gets the original spirit?

If the worm was having sex with its self then at least one of the halves will rot in worm hell.
