I don't think fasting was ever meant to take on the shackles of a rigid unyielding behavior, I see it rather as an adjunct to enhance our spiritual appreciation of the Lord's Day,

You know, nobody, I really don't feel a need to discuss my Fast Sunday history with you here. Okay, so I never had a Fast Sunday. Big deal. :-P

I just wanted to ask if pregnant women are exempt from fasting?

I believe so, and nursing mothers too. Pre-adolescent children generally aren't expected to fast except perhaps by not having candy or sweets during fasting periods or maybe skipping one meal as they get older.

When I was a teenager, my parents expected me to at least fast for breakfast and were disappointed if I didn't fast for lunch as well. As a hungry teen, I didn't want to disapoint my parents, but I was so hungry I came up with creative ways of eating by stashing food or candy in my room or going to the storage room and finding something that was open like spice bottles. Later in life I felt a bit guilty, but it was really hard for me as a teen.

It's odd too because it wasn't quite as hard for me as a 20 year old missionary despite the fact that I'd bike several miles even while fasting. I also tried to be careful not to dehydrate myself though, so if I felt quite thirsty I would allow myself water even while fasting. I may have been a devoted missionary but I didn't want to be completely reckless.

To this day I cheat. More so than I did when I was younger. I used to believe in the whole "better for your body" stuff they threw at us and I was into anything to increase strength and health. (yes, I know there are some benefits and what not ...... but still....)

Now, as I usually do the weekend cooking and we have little one's who don't fast yet or fast for only one meal, I'm in the kitchen banging pots and pans around and I'll sneak bites whenever noones looking. I probably fill up more that way than if I would just sit down and eat a meal.

I have never fasted more than one meal for Fast Sunday. And now, of course, fasting is out of the question.

Many are exempt, Jersey. Pregnant and nursing women. Unbaptised children. Anyone with a condition that requires medication be taken with food. The elderly.

I have the metabolism of a camel. In terms of eating habits, I can fast for two days and not get hungry. It's never been a problem. I once decided to not eat for 5 and a half days just to see what hunger was like.
