The new missionary thrust

My Sweet Pickle came home from ward council the other night with a new gem: In my ward, we're now supposed to report any conversation we have with a non-member that is about the church or the gospel. These conversations now count as missionary outreach and will be compiled into a monthly report by the Ward Mission Leader. I am now required to report all conversations of this nature that occur in my office (and since they're a curious lot, they happen quite often).

Supposedly, the church is trying to document the missionary efforts of the members.

Is anyone else doing this? Does anyone else think this is pretty danged bizarre?

Be happy that you're getting a new, bizarre missionary thrust, Harmony! The same old missionary stuff gets boring after a while. (You earned it with that thread title! :P)

Seriously, I think the request that members report their workplace conversations to Ward Missionaries is weird. Almost creepy. But, knowing you, you won't do it if you don't want to. Which is a good thing, in my book.

Haven't heard anything about it. Sounds local.

Step 1: Enforce a reporting of missionary activity.

Step 2: Document and grade the performance of the member.

Step 3: Guilt trip those who do not participate and use it to make the less missionary minded members self conscious.

I agree with LOAP. It smacks of a local attempt to improve missionary work.

And like all of its predecessors, an ultimately unsuccessful one that will be quickly and, without fanfare, abandoned.

They want referrals, names just like any other business.

Thanks KA: Missionary and thrust in the same sentence, that is funny, just add position.

That just seems silly.

But you can report each post you make here in reply to a non-member - so you'll have some stellar numbers!

Actually, it sounds like some really lame stats padding.

Along those lines, like anthing in Mormon missionary-land, its "make work". Futile in purpose and futile in its end result.

I think it is a little crazy, but I doubt you really have to go into great detail. It isn't asked of us by the FP or Q12. I know when I was ward missionary we had to report every week at thecoordination meating, but we didn't go into detail I would just say, I wen't to see this person, this is the progress we are making. Nothing else really.
