Over on MAD, there is a thread where Robspectre is complaining that he was unfairly banned from CARM for posting a scripture from LDS.org.

I dare not post a comment on that thread about the uncountable number of unfair bannings on his beloved MAD board.

Some of the comments are just too much.

I propose a forum exclusively devoted to banned-from-CARM stories. Maybe if we mock them enough, we'll shame them into a little more latitude over there.

Ugh. I can't do it any more. The hypocrisy is maddening!!

I saw that, too.

If anything, CARM might be a bit worse, as it employs that weird point system, which causes me to believe that someone has spent way too much time thinking about how to silence opposition.

At least on MADB the bannings are transparently arbitrary with no justification offered or expected.

I just took my first look at the place. It looks really creepy. Right up front they advertize their status as a 501(c)3 nonprofit status, and further down they list dozens of sectarian efforts to fight Mormonism, JWism, secularism (Atheism/Evolution/Aborion(!!!!)). Where is the puke emoticon?

I feel like I get through to some people at MADB, and over the years, I've earned a badge of minor respect I guess. But do you achieve any meaningful dialogue at CARM? Just curious about the prospects.

Dang...I really wanted to link Silverknight (a poster I like alot) to my DCP vs Scratch parody (because he said he wanted to see a Royal Rumble between Pahoran and a carm poster). But a PM out of the blue would be beyond weird I guess.

Yanno... when I post on MAD, and here, I hold my tongue a lot and try to refrain from speaking my mind -- on pretty much all matters, even evolution.. so, it's nice to be able to take on people without feeling pity for them. :)

The place is creepy, yet, I steer clear of the really creepy areas-- do not, do not, do not, do not enter the chat room! Nooooo!

I think you and Tarski are probably the two most important posters at MAD.

I enjoy some of the conversations at CARM 'cause there are people that know what they're talking about. Quite frankly I feel sorry for some of the people that I talk with on evolution on these boards -- I sort of go into shut down mode 'cause I don't understand what the hell they're talking about. They actually believe in a global flood, Adam & Eve, etc... I don't know how to reach them so I almost just start by merely introducing evolution as not attacking God. Yet, I feel sooo damn uncomfortable discussing things with lots of LDS posters 'cause of their beliefs that just defy most known archaeological and scientific facts known by most LAY PEOPLE. I feel flustered and almost as if I'd be telling a 3 year old Santa is uncle Bob in a red suit...
