Hey, I was talking to my bishop just there, I wanted to go to the temple, but not inside. He told me to prepare for an interview for next Sunday. How does one prepare for a temple recommend interview. I haven't been to the temple for about a yearish. I haven't been to church for a while and he was asking why, I guess I have just been too lazy.

Why do you need a recommend to go to the outside of the temple? This makes no sense to me.

Why can't you just go? And why do you want to? What do you want to do? Walk around the grounds? Sit in the foyer?

I understand better now that what you want is to accompany a group on a bus, and you figure you need a recommend to do that. Gotcha.

I'd be honest with the bishop and tell him you'd like to go on a trip with the temple group, but aren't worthy for a recommend at the moment, and wonder if it would be possible to go along in order to rehabilitate your worthiness (that might be untrue; I couldn't say, but it sounds like what you're trying to do).

If transportation weren't an issue, I'd say just go. This might come as a surprise to you, but I've been in LDS temples frequently since leaving the church, generally when there's a family member being married. I've sat in waiting rooms in temples all across the United States over the years, and happily strolled on the grounds, without any fear or concern whatsoever.

I should also tell you that when I was younger I also accompanied a couple of temple trips that I was not worthy for a recommend, but still got to go along on the trip. Your bishop might not be so inclined, but it shouldn't be an issue.

If you really want to prepare, and are sincere about that, and think you might want to "go in" (I'm assuming you're saying to do ordinance work, since just going into the waiting room requires no real preparation except appropriate dress and conduct), then I guess you don't want to be drinking alcohol, smoking or doing drugs anytime beforehand, and probably you don't want to be engaging in conduct that you think is contrary to the interview, like premarital or extramarital sex.

Me, I'd just go in a spirit of contemplation and meditation, which usually works, just like going to a serene garden. You seem sincere and want to go there for reasons of your own.

I don't smoke. I have gotten drunk a couple of times. It is so hard when out with friends that are drinking and want buy you a drink not too. I think the only unworthy think I have done is drink.

I am not worthy because I don't believe. But want to make sure I am heading in the right path. I have no intentions on doing ordinances. I just want to feel the place in my heart with intuition.

I really don't like this first sentence. Not believing doesn't make you not worthy. That is a false dichotomy and one it isn't wise to buy into.

The temple isn't a scary place. The grounds are beautiful and quiet. It is peaceful there. It's only if one's heart is in turmoil because of other issues related to the temple that being there exacerbates the turmoil. For anyone else, it's a beautiful building with beautiful grounds.

One thing I noticed a while back is that on the back side of the temple, it's not nearly as pretty. Just lawn, no flowers or shrubs.

We have a pond at the back.

I don't think it does. I think it has fish though. There is also a bit where there are arches and at the front there are quarter circle things full of water. ...OHHH I forgot about my lab report...
