Hammer: "God is Smiting the Bible Belt"

A rather nasty thread on the aptly named MADboard, begun by the militant and uber-TBM poster named Hammer, which helps reveal the mindset (and sense of humor) of certain TBMs:

Hammer wrote:I remember as a youth hearing a J. Golden Kimball story:

He had had some very life threatening and harrowing experiences in his mission among the Bible Belt Christians and once was heard saying something about killing them all and then baptising for the dead as the only way they could save these Bible thumpers.

Well as I have been watching the disasters pummelling our country I noticed an imbalanced amount of the disasters were in this area. I wonder if the Lord is trying to tell them something. wink.gif

(The thread in question is entitled, "Bible Belt Getting Belted--pelted--drowned--etc.) Some here will no doubt recall the public shaming of David Bokovoy for similar insensitive comments.

I know that they think that they are being funny, but I don't see the humor when lives are lost or ruined.

And, of course, if the same post were made in relation to some natural disaster in Utah targeting Mormons, there would be outrage.

ETA:

I like kawikadave's reply:

I think posts like this are offensive, immature, and judgmental in the extreme.

Are you trying to make Mormons look bad? If so, you're succeeding.

MS,

If your going to call out someone from another board for posting something inconsiderate, at least have the courtesy to acknowledge that posters on that board have already called him to task. You'll notice that I posted the following in response to Hammer:

If he's trying to tell the south something, I have to wonder what Myanmar did so wrong to make him kill 100,000+ of them.

Maybe God is trying to send them a message.

Of course, consistency demands that they acknowledge that God it trying to send the Mormons, too, a message thanks to the tornado that whipped through Salt Lake City in 2000 or so.

I live in the South. So far this year God has sent a clear and unmistakable message:

Enjoyeth moderate temperatures, good rainfall, and mineth abundant greenery. Oh, and watcheth NASCAReth. Sorry, but thou liveth in the Southeth.

Well, DUH!!

SLC is less than 50% Mormon now. Of COURSE a message needs to be sent.

If God really wanted to send a message, he should send, say, a tornado through Salt Lake valley that leaves all active, temple recommend members' homes in tact but destroys everyone else's. THAT would be too much a coincidence to miss the point.

God's problem is that he doesn't use very precise means of destruction to send his messages. Too much collateral damage. What he needs is something akin to a "smart" hurricane.

Yeah...

But, it's Hammer.

That doesn't make it right; that just makes it...

I mean, it's Hammer.

Give the "jew of the 21st century" a break--laughing at the doom visited on Southerners takes his mind off the impending "Mormon holicost (sic)".
