Do you notice the slow withering of Church in Utah?
I don't live in Utah anymore but have strong ties to the State that I love more than any other place on Earth.
I do usually stay in one of the downtown hotels, make my obligatory visit to Temple Square.
I've been back probably two dozen times since moving to Houston, I see the place decaying, becoming a
beehive, sharing the same fate with the animal they iconed into their Flag.
I wanted to take some pictures of Grand Jesus, my wife absolutely refused to go with me, few years back when I showed her the Statue, she was horrified seeing such a "grotesquely monsterous" statue of him. (I don't share her opinion but she
has a point I think). Anyway, as you enter the place (as a man) you are in the midst of half a dozen chicks of every color from every corner of the Planet, and they are no older than 21. I kid you not, there were six girls waiting to greet me at South entrance. They are not aggressive, smiling and polite. I don't talk to hem usually, I can't pretend anymore.
New Temples, Wards command every prominent hill of Corridor. I imagine some of you guys drive to work from Point of the Mountain, do you notice that huge white Church in midst of Million Dollar homes? Incrredible wealth an might is displayed, I ask myself, for what?
The Church is heading into an unavoidable implosion and the leaders act clueless what to do about it.
I do envy those who live in the State though, the quality of life is unmatched, so much wild, geologic wonders crammed
into one State, it is almost unfair, in couple days I drove my wife crazy, camping in Goblin valley, taking her through Mexican Hat to Monument Valley, coming back through Capitol Reef, Burr Trail. The colors are so real and deep I hardly tweek them with Photoshop.
Houston is on a totally different planet, here I used to see few mishies now and then, they seem to be extinct lately.
The world is so oblivious to "One, True Church".

So not seeing LDS missonaries in Houston equates to a slow withering of the Church in Utah? The delusions you guys operate under are quite palpable.

I must say your description of Utah makes me long to be back there as well.

From my bonus room in my house, looking out the window, I can count at least 16 steeples and one Cult temple.
They are all money makers for the Cult.
Putting lavish multi-million dollar erect temples in the middle of neighborhoods makes rich Mormons trample over each other to buy up the houses around it. That drives the prices up into the millions. The temples then rake in money.
I just ignore it now. But I do enjoy driving my convertible sports car past the Mormon Cult building on Sunday and watch the Peter Penishoods gawk. Their 10% is going to the Cult. I'm driving my 10%.
Yes, downtown Utah belongs to the Cult. I believe they should build a 15 foot wall around the entire down town, tear down all of the buildings, and turn the place into the Mormon version of the Vatican - the Matican. That way Mormons will swipe their recommends at the gates to be allowed into Zion. The rest of the gentiles can have a seat over there and watch Cult videos about the white and delightsome Jesus Smith.
Downtown SLC is a ghost town. There is absolutely nothing to do down there except gawk at all the cash the Cult has thrown down for the appearances of spirituality. And the Cult likes it that way. The buildings are deteriorating; most of them are closed and boarded up. Night life? What is that? It doesn't exist because you should be home reading your scriptures. I work downtown and now have to DRIVE to find a decent place to eat because Mormonism has shut down the whole city.
Aren't they wonderful? Aren't they special? Aren't they marvelous?
Few weeks ago our Mormon CEO brought in City Creek Reserve, the Cult Company that is overseeing the $3+ billion dollar Mormon Matican changes. I loved how the Cult speaker talked about alcohol sales would not be permitted on Cult property, yet they’d bend the rules for restaurants, so that money could be made. After that, I got up and walked out. I should have asked him what the Mormon God needs with a shopping mall – and if the Mormon God would open the books to prove that Cult tithing was not being used, but I do value my job for the moment.
Mormons have made sure that Salt Lake is a very boring place to be. No real night life, no pubs with good food and good beer (within an exception of a few, Squatters, etc). Whacky liquor laws that actually make it worse and get you drunk rather than allowing you to just enjoy. Labeling those who actually drink alcohol in moderation (like myself) into dingy closed off holes that reek like alcohol and tobacco. Of course I just don’t go unless good friends like Bob McCue are in town, and then I really enjoy sitting down with the Exmos and clicking our mugs together.
I’ve spent almost four weeks in England this year and I love every minute of it. In London I can visit hundreds of pubs within a ten mile stretch. They are lively; they serve good food and great beer. There is life there. Here in Salt Lake? Might as well not even bother coming down town unless you’ve got your temple garb packed and you’re going to go dead dunk – because there is nothing else going on but Cult activities.
Fun in Utah means going to Park City or Moab – or better yet, do what most Salt Lakers do – get in the car and drive 132 miles to the west into Wendover Nevada, where you can get a decent drink, a good show, play some cards or pull the handles.
Utah, a pretty “great” Mormon state.

As is the rudeness and disdain for others under which you operate. :)
I don't see any "withering" either, having moved from Houston back to Utah. What I do see is a church full of people doing their best when their best is never good enough.

I don't think it's withering at all. Producing a bunch of kiddies, most of which will follow their parents' traditions, creates a niche religion for that part of the country. I think the Mormon church will be fine. People need spirituality, in one form or another, and they generally pick the one closest to home.

Such is reserved only for intellectual dishonesty. You know, I think you might actually believe that ...
You seem to agree that the evidence given in the op for the Church withering in Utah is not really evidence for such at all.

I believe I said that, yes.
There seems to be a subset within the exmo crowd that really wants to believe that the church is imploding. It's not happening.
I think it's been spiritually stagnant for a very long time, but that's a different thing entirely.
