Blessing and Naming LDS Babies

Does God reserve some special curse or physical calamity to befall a newborn child if it isn't blessed? Perhaps we could argue that the reason a child dies of starvation every three seconds on this planet is because they weren't properly blessed in Mormonism, or any other religion, for that matter.

It's important to cover all of the loopholes in these 'blessings' because you never know if what you 'leave out' may come back to haunt you.

According to what I have been told, my father received a sort of unique blessing (I've never heard one like it) where the parts of his body were individually identified and blessed that they would properly serve their physical function, as well as spiritual when applicable (eg, eyes to see, ears to hear, etc). However, my dad's knees were never specifically identified and blessed, and he has been plagued with knee problems his entire adult life.

Yes, he and my family members blame this on the fact that his knees were neglected in his baby blessing.

Even when I was a believer I had difficulty accepting that God could be so darn legalistic.

LOL! Perhaps it's God getting back at the legalistic. He wasn't left with much He could work with so He concentrates on the knees.

You know I'm kidding right?

I never took it that way. I just thought it was a way to formally present the newest member of the ward family, to establish their membership within the tribe as it were. I always kinda liked the ceremony, except that the mother has no part in it (but since that's a result of the lack of inspiration of our leaders, I try to not let it bother me).

Are you sure everything was mentioned in that blessing besides the knees?

;)

Smug, self righteous Mormons seem to think they have the copyrighted rights to the word "Blessings".

Walked my daughter past the local Mormon Bishop who was out in his yard. He asked if I was going to bring her down and have her blessed. I responded to him that I was no longer a member of his Cult. I also explained to him that by providing for my daughter in every way possible including food, clothing and love was more of a blessing that his Cult could ever provide.

Of course, to Mormons, you can be the cleanest, most perfect human in the world. But if you ain't Mormon and get a Mormon blessing, well, then you are better off dead.

You must have had some really rotten bishops. I don't think any of mine would ever ascribe to that thought.

You just showed him that you were a jerk though so the part about being clean and perfect is kinda funny.

Yes, I showed my neighbor of 20 years that I was a jerk. I distinctly remember you being there, right?
