Allen Wyatt finally fesses up about 'savegrantpalmer.com'

Some of you may remember the "savegrantpalmer.com" affair from a number of years back. If not, here's a rundown:

When it became known that Grant Palmer, author of "An Insider's View of Mormon Origins," had been scheduled for a "court of love," many people here decided to create a website showing their support for him.

Several people made suggestions for potential domain names for this soon-to-be-created website. When a domain name was decided upon (http://www.savegrantpalmer.com) and one of them went to register it, lo and behold, Allen Wyatt, one of the chief bigwigs at FAIR, had already registered it and several of its variants.

Yes, he had been monitoring the conversation here and had snatched it up.

After a firestorm of criticism, he maintained that it was merely a "prank" and there was nothing wrong with what he had done.

Now, fast-forward to last week: Over at http://www.timesandseasons.org/?p=4590 , in comment #38, Allen says the following:

I registered some domain names that were going to be used by those critical of the Stake President, in support of Grant Palmer.

Two days later, I offered those domain names to the supporter/critic-in-question, free of charge. I offered them to him via e-mail and in a personal phone call. He declined my offer. In any accounts of the "incident," I have yet to see a full account–only how mean and vile I am because I tried to place speedbumps in the path of those criticizing the church.

So it's nice to see him finally admit that his little stunt wasn't a mere "prank;" that he was indeed "try[ing] to place speedbumps in the path of those criticizing the church."

Why would he call up Grant Palmer to give him the domain name?

It wasn't Grant's idea. I wouldn't want it either.

He supposedly didn't offer it to Palmer. He supposedly offered it to the Palmer supporter.

It doesn't sound like a confession. In typical Mormon fashion he lied about something, and then let the truth slip out eventually after having issued a denial.

Mormon Modus Operandi

1) Do or say something crappy.

2) Get criticized for it.

3) Deny you did or said something crappy.

4) Get criticized for lying about it.

5) Obfuscate incident to death.

6) Critics continue to hound Mormon because it's now a pissing contest.

7) Mormon attacks critics, continues to deny wrongdoing and lying.

8 ) Mormon slips up, and truth comes out.

9) Mormon denies ever having said anything but the truth, begins vigorous defense of slip up/original crappy incident.

Cycle repeats.

When Allen Wyatt was buying domain names in bulk, a friend of mine stated on one of the Mormon/exmormon message boards that he (my friend) was going to register "AllenWyattSucks.com". Within hours, Wyatt or his company purchased "AllenWyattSucks.com". I don't think Wyatt renewed the name, however.

Dirty tricks happen in politics, why would we assume they would not happen in religion as well?

Especially when they are up against defending the indefensible.

Truth is the biggest threat against the financial growth of the LDS church.

That's just it. He vigorously denied that it was a "dirty trick" at first, and now it's biting him in the butt.

But why?

Why does FAIR keep shooting itself in the foot?

I know, I know: Allen is a rogue agent. But, then there's the Bob McCue debacle.

It's just sort of creepy that Wyatt and his crew monitor hostile boards in order to preemptively buy up domain names.

Every time it happens again it's justs a funny prank. Haha.

Yeah.
