The true order of prayer

Why is the true order of prayer only practiced in the temple???

Why don't LDS use the TOoP in their everyday lives? Wouldn't it seem that God would prefer those prayers rather than the standard prayers?

Also, does God listen to those prayers more intently than a regular prayer?

That's because the false order of prayer is just as effect in getting results.

don't look too much into the semantics. Its just another piece in a ceremony used to create an exclusionary social activity.

It used to be done in members' homes, too, until the practice was officially discouraged (If I recall correctly during the McKay presidency). A lot of fundies still do it at home.

And I doubt God would listen to a chanted, repeated prayer more than another prayer. Makes no sense.

I wonder if any fundie ever dressed up in their robes, performed all the signs and tokens, gripped the person next to them with the secret masonic handshake, and then asked God "to bless this food that it will nourish and strengthen our bodies, in the nameofjeezchristamen."

I wonder whether the prayer circle was performed in robes in member's houses. I imagine not... I was always taught that those were never to be worn outside the temple, but when you get fundies going on something... who knows where it could end up.

Well, if you want to believe in what Jesus supposedly said, then read Matthew 6, verse 5-8:

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Do you recall actual wording of it? As I remember not everyone participated. It was likea Pow-Wow circle and they did circulate an object between, kinda, medicine bag?
Hell, if I remember, it's been over 30yrs...

I don't ever remember passing any objects.

I never passed anything around, but we did have a little bag of names over which we prayed. The names were submitted by members. I know my name was turned in for prayer after I lost my testimony. The prayers didn't do me much good...
