Abstinence & STDs -- Utah?

There's a thread at MAD and the usual suspects are there praising the stance the Church has on waiting until marriage and how abstinence only works. Talking about New York ( New York City!! ) being a cess pool of walking virus and how those that are against abstinence only education all have sexually transmitted diseases or had abortions.... *blink* So, I thought I'd do a looksie to see how Utah fares in STDs.

Intereeesting:

Rates
Statewide, Utah is experiencing an increase in both chlamydia and gonorrhea cases. Statistics for 2006 indicate 888 gonorrhea cases and 5,092 chlamydia cases, marking a new precedent
in sexually transmitted disease occurrence
in Utah. In particular, those ages 15–24 are at highest risk for contracting chlamydia and gonorrhea. In 2006, 51% of gonorrhea and 67% chlamydia cases were seen in this population.
Increases in ages 13–19 are alarming, reflecting a need for more comprehensive STD education, testing and prevention services, targeting teenagers.
Since 2002, this 13–19 age group has seen over a 150% increase in gonorrhea cases while chlamydia has increased by 22% (Figures 3 and 4).
Adolescents in Utah are experiencing more cases of chlamydia and gonorrhea than ever before.

That is one of the dumbest threads I've ever seen over there. Smac is touting Uganda as a successful abstinence-only program, except his only source is Wikipedia, and the article he cites says that abstinence-only is just one of many approaches they are using. I'd respond over there, but I'm afraid I'd kill off some brain cells.

Some people argue with Mormons, some people sniff glue. As long as those uppity brain cells get killed, smart ass bastards.

Okay, as one who will soon move to that city, I find the statistic pretty high and I wonder what it is like across the rest of the country for genital herpes. 25% of New Yorkers have genital herpes -- but that goes up to 50% of blacks, according to the article. Should we also praise the LDS stance on shutting out those of African heritage, or is it too late to praise that aspect of conservative LDS prescience?

Oh, I wish I was moving to Utah. All those hot Utah Valley females who tried out for "So You Think You Can Dance"... they don't have STDs.

Uhoh. Did someone get antsy that I mentioned a genetic component to why LDS may view Utah women as hot? inbreeding?

At least in New York City (!!) there will be some diversity to that gene pool. :)

Sorry, I may have given the wrong idea with my playful sarcasm. I already married a girl from Orem, the next town over from where I grew up, and we now have two inbred kiddies who aren't old enough to swim in the gene pool themselves.
