Danny, your recent statement that you believe the LDS church strives to downplay/hide its so-called altruistic tactics is inaccurate.
Why does the church initiate a press release if its quietly going about its business. Who released a press release when the Nevada floods happened a few years back? Why it was Mormon Inc.
Mormonism has no character, no tact and no shame. It waves acts like this Mississippi sand bag media masturbatory affair in the air instead of hiding quietly in the background, saving the world from itself.

I don't think DCP actually said that. Quite the opposite, in fact. He said that if the church trumpeted their charity to the world, that would be a good thing.

Yah, I think you are right.
So heres an adjusted argument: Why would it be a good thing? It's a PR move, nothing more.
Why does the Mormon god require a press release?

Whether I said X (as you first imagined) or not-X, I'm still wrong, right?
The content of your objection is secondary, so long as it's negative and adversarial, I suppose.
Funny.

I don't see anything intrinsically wrong with public relations.
And I think it useful for any organization (e.g., the American Red Cross), and particularly a
controversial one, to let outsiders know of the good that it does.

"Let your light so shine before men," said "the Mormon god' [
sic], "that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
You might want to ask him why.
