What's your excuse?

What is going on with posts like this? I know I don't like to be referred to like that. I wish people would take several deep breaths and maybe count to twenty before posting in piques of anger.

I've forwarded this material to SKINNY-L@teleport.com. It will be a pleasure to read about this on SHIELDS tommorow.

William,

I know you have an uncouth sense of humor, and in your mind this is all in good fun. But don't forget there are real people on the other end of your Internet connection. Also don't forget that using terms referring to one's disabilities, sexual orientation, social class or legitimacy of parentage as insulting epithets necessarily implies a devaluing of persons to whom those terms actually do apply. And finally, don't forget that if a joke wasn't very funny the first time, it probably won't be any funnier the second, third, fourth, or twenty-fifth time around...

Have fun and stay out of trouble,

-Chris

Anger? Hardly. How and why you have mistaken derision for anger is a mystery to me. As for your objection that “I don’t like to be referred to like that” – well, if the single-wide fits …

Did I come across as trying to be funny? I meant to be taken quite seriously.

But don't forget there are real people on the other end of your Internet connection.

You mean like “Mr. Scratch”, “beastlie”, “Gadianton”, “antishock8”, etc.? Each and every one a willing and enthusiastic participant in the CJS.

Also don't forget that using terms referring to one's disabilities, sexual orientation …

I’ll worry about that when I’ve first done such a thing. Until then, my conscience remains clear.

… social class or legitimacy of parentage as insulting epithets necessarily implies a devaluing of persons to whom those terms actually do apply.

Well … again, if the single-wide fits …

And finally, don't forget that if a joke wasn't very funny the first time, it probably won't be any funnier the second, third, fourth, or twenty-fifth time around...

Oh, I wouldn’t be so sure. In fact, as a recent example, my friend Lou Midgley laughed quite profusely when I informed him of how he was being served at “The Great and Spacious Trailer Park™.” He seems to have considered that appellation both humorous and apropos.

Naturally, no one wants to be called a snotty-nosed shabby bastard child to his/her own face. That’s why I do it via message board. But if it’s any consolation, I would also do it in person in the case of the inimitable Mr. Scratch, even now feverishly typing away on his laptop while nestled into the sagging, cigarette-burned virtual sofa in his single-wide living room; beer cans stacked to the ceiling, ash trays on the floor …
.
.
.
And now that I’ve made my meaning clearer, I will turn out the lights, close the door, and leave you all to your revels …

God, how I wish you people would keep your promises. Please, close the door and never return. You bring about as much substance to the discussion as a rank fart.

Of course he laughed! It's the typical Scientologist insanity laugh as I described on another thread.

You are an embarrassment to the church, William. A disgusting, immature, inappropriate, shameful embarrassment. I sincerely hope you are one of a kind.

There are good people who live in mobile home parks, homeless shelters, shelters for abused women, and in boxes on city streets. There are bad people who live in mansions on Recommend Ridge. The relative goodness and badness of any individual has nothing to do with their living quarters.

As for the other... I am female. Your words indict you. Repentence begins with seeking to right a wrong you've committed.

Hey, I think we should thank Will. Not only does he demonstrate the fruits of the gospel, in case anyone had doubts on that point, but he also makes it very easy should anyone wish to collect a dossier of the stupid, the inane, the insulting, the vulgar tidbits that Mormon believers regularly proffer on the internet.

I’m pleased to inform you that I am, without a doubt, quite typical.

Indeed, I am the “kind” who, were I your bishop or stake president, I would not sign your temple recommend when you came, lies on your lips, to obtain it.

There are good people who live in mobile home parks, homeless shelters, shelters for abused women, and in boxes on city streets.

Yes, no doubt. Of course, those aren’t the same folks who frequent the Great and Spacious Trailer Park™. They are, rather, the folks to whom I might deliver a warm loaf of home-made bread, a hand of sincere fellowship, and my testimony of the truthfulness of the restored gospel.

There are bad people who live in mansions on Recommend Ridge.

And other bad people who, from the porch of their single-wides, heap envious derision in that direction.

The relative goodness and badness of any individual has nothing to do with their living quarters.

So true. Indeed, it often has to do with how easily they will utter lies to the Lord’s anointed. I’ve found that there are liars and hypocrites in every neighborhood.

As for the other... I am female.

And a old, bitter, lying one at that. Were you my mother, I would be consumed with the shame of your dissembling faithlessness.

Your words indict you. Repentence (sic) begins with seeking to right a wrong you've committed.

Let she who is without sin be the first to cast a stone …

In addressing Moksha's OP........

There is a major flaw, Mok.

Will didn't post his words in anger.

Quite simply, Will is a smartass. Just like Merc, Boaz, and Nehor are smartasses.

Unfortunately for Will, he is simply not as entertaining as our other resident three stooges. ;)

He has his work cut out for him to match their comedic talents.

Hmmmm....maybe that's why he's bitter. ;)
