Fairlds.org now given out by online missionaries

I donned my best inactive member sock puppet and went to the Mormon.org chat and asked about the 1835 edition of the D&C 101:4 which denies and forbade polygamy.
The mishie right away told me to goto fairlds.org for a straight answer to that question and ANY others I might have.
I asked if it were a LDS owned website and he said it was.
Is this the norm there now or was this young unwitting boy speaking for himself?

FAIR is not owned by the Church... but it wouldn't surprise me that the missionary would refer you to their site. There have been a couple times that the Church headquarters has passed on questions to FAIR, a few FAIR articles have even been posted on LDS.org. Some big authorities in the Church are quite supportive of FAIR, but other authorities are more cautious about their apologetics... and/or about apologetics in general.

Are you sure you're talking about FAIR and not FARMS?

Well, since they ditched the message board, the tone surely isn't as confrontationally controversial... surely.

Yes... I am talking about FAIR. Why?

Because I can recall the church's official website linking to an online FARMS article about DNA, but I can't recall it ever linking to a FAIR article.

David Stewart's DNA article from FAIR is also listed here:

It is all so odd to me.
The leaders of the church can't answer the questions so they send folks to FAIR?
For a church that claims to be led by Jesus Christ himself, it just sounds REALLY strange.
I know my expectations are way too high, but it just seems a church led by Christ would, well, have a few answers and not have to depend on the opinion of the folks at FAIR.
Oh well... :-)
