Moroni's Promise

The little Mormon neighbor girl left my house a couple of hours ago--and behind she left her father's old copy of "The Uniform Teaching System for Families." I have no idea why she brought it here. She was playing teacher or something, probably. It's late, so I'll return it in the morning.
I read through the first lesson, and was surprised at how manipulative it seems. Especially Moroni's Promise. Goodness.
Over and over in the lesson, it instructs the missionary to say things like, "As you read it [Joseph Smith pamphlet] sincerely, you will feel it's power and truth." And, "I know you will feel the truth of our message if you make the effort to ponder these things and will seek the Lord in sincere prayer."
Those admonitions, that the investigator will know the truthfulness of Mormonism if they read sincerely, pray sincerely, or make an effort to ponder sincerely, are repeated to the point of annoyance. The investigators are asked to read Moroni 10: 3-5:
Notice all the qualifiers. If an investigator prays and doesn't get a confirmation of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, then they are either ungrateful, didn't ponder, didn't ask with a sincere heart, or with real intent, or didn't have enough faith in Christ.
Not much can be done about the ridiculousness of Moroni's Promise. But, I know the missionary lessons have changed. I hope they're not as blatantly rude and manipulative as they used to be.

3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
