Simon, the "real" Messiah?

For some the stone confirms Christianity’s roots in Jewish tradition while others feel that the tablet discredits the Resurrection as a mere reproduction of an ancient fable.
Several participants of the conference accused him of using the tablet to rehash a theory that he had presented in his 2002 book, The Messiah Before Jesus.
Hopefully, I am not bringing up old news.

It doesn't appear that contemporary historians considered him the Messiah, or even
a messiah.

The title of my post was tongue in cheek. The point, according to Professor Knohl, is that the notion of leaders rising from the dead among Jews did not originate with Christ. Furthermore, given this Simon's activities I would not go so far as to say that some did not consider him a messiah per the rabbinic definition.

I think it's quite likely old traditions and beliefs were incorporated into the Christian
Story. Comparing
Mark (the earliest gospel) with
Matthew 1-3 there is clear evidence of embellishment and a desire for Jesus to "fit" the prophecies of the expected Messiah.
