Well, at least you have the story right.

What missionary hasn't done something stupid like that?

Hey, don't sweat it Tarski. Obedience is the first law of the universe, and you were obedient in those days (from the sound of it), so there was, or will be, a good outcome from that pitiful pageant. Even though you don't know of it, someone's testimony was strengthened. A seed was planted. Someone saw the advertisement and "felt" something, and eventually they opened the door for other LDS missionaries and a whole family was brought into the gospel.

I myself have an embarassing story, involving defecation in a toilet that wasn't actually hooked up to a sewer line. I've shared that story before and someday I will share it again, when I feel the time is right (pearls before swine and all that). I do believe someone in that household joined the true church because of my message and because of my obedience, although they never spoke to me again. So hold tight to the rod, Tarski. God is bound to bless us when we keep the commandments.

That's fantastic. You captured so well the hubris, the naïvété, and the ultimate humiliation. Beautiful.
