The face of sin today often wears the mask of tolerance.

Does this statement by Thomas Monson have any bearing on Gordon B Hinckley counseling LDS to 'tolerate your non Mormon neighbors'?

Tommy is a mob boss. Just look at him with his slicked back hair and that scowl on his face.

I wonder if his statement can be read as being tolerant will lead to becoming like the sinner whom you tolerate.

Methinks his statement will be soon relegated to his personal opinion file.

No, because tolerating your non-Mormon neighbors is not a sin. It's a commandment.

Actually, we're not commanded to tolerate them. We're commanded to love them. ;)

Nice Liz!

So it is a sin to tolerate them (Monson) but a commandment to love them (Jesus)?

;-)

In my book, Christ Trump's Monson!

I've always thought it was funny that a similar accusation has been leveled at me. I can't count the number of times I've been called a "smooth-tongue" viper and told that my "reasonableness" and "fairness" are masking a deep-seated hatred for the LDS church and a desire to destroy it.

Monson's statement seems to be part and parcel of that idea: you have to watch out for the tolerant and kind and civil, as they are hiding deep sins.

Bah.

I have heard that there are groups that advocate sex with minors. These groups purportedly have evidence that the children are not harmed by it and are in fact ready for it. They also ask for tolerance.

I say we don't even consider their idea--not even for half a second. Evil is clearly wearing the mask of tolerance in such a case.

As to tolerating our non-LDS neighbors. I think that's a poor choice of words. Tolerance is something I apply to anti-Mormon protesters and it involves ignoring them while they excercise constitutional rights. I think ignoring my non-LDS neighbors is a very bad idea and I don't think that's what the prophets have in mind.

For those who don't recognize the photo, those were two teenaged boys in Iran who were hanged by the state because they supposedly had sex with each other.

Regarding tolerance of "evil" being sin, I think people like Gaz, who seem to be perfectly fine with the idea that people such as these boys should be killed by the authorities, are in fact evil. So in a reverse sort of way I agree with Monson.

Runtu = the Mark Hoffman of the exmormon world.
