Skinny-L Members Ridicule T. Kimball, C. Hitchens

Post by _Mister Scratch »

Although they have maintained that their secretive "Skinny-L" listserve is merely for comraderie, bonhomie, and jovial stories about hiking trips, the real truth seems to be a bit contrary to this. Via one of my informants, I recently was made privy to the following message from George Mitton:

Tom Kimball has called our attention to the posh new web site of
Christopher Hitchins. The home page of it may be found at this address:

http://buildupthatwall.com/index.html

Hitchins is, of course flogging his athiest book which has probably
already made him a fortune--maybe enough to cover his gin budget for
sometime to come.
His book has a very flawed section on Mormonism. But Tom's
interest is apparently in Hitchins'
book recommendations, which includes Robert M. Price's athiest look at
early Christianity as published by Signature. Hitchins, in his links
section, takes us to the web site of Price. This is a must see--a
wonder to behold. This may be found at:

Books webpage, but who are still a but curious, I
have attached a WP file with the latest from Tom
Kimball, but also one earlier item. Amazing stuff.
How can George D. Smith imagine that he is getting
value for his money?

Huh. Yeah, this sure seems like an a-okay kind of a forum where good friends reminisce about trips to the ballet, and happy camping trips and whatnot.

Something else, though: who, or what, is the "MMM" referred to? Another piece of the puzzle emerges....

Oh lighten up Scratch. This is just jocular fun. It's like when my friends and I get together and come up with elaborate methods of firebombing your house. All in good fun. :)

Who's "they"? I'm the only person involved with Skinny-L who posts in this e-desert.

I've never denied that we have some fun, from time to time, laughing about this or that critic. (Don't worry: I don't think you've ever been mentioned there. Nobody on Skinny-L knows or cares about you, so far as I've noticed.)

Still using your creepy network of alleged "anonymous informants" to gather data on your targets for your creepy "dossiers"?

I'm left gasping with horror and shocked amazement. How blood-chilling! How terrible! It fairly sears the screen!

Aieeeee! Unbelievable! Call out the National Guard! Cover the eyes of the women and children! Grown men faint at the sheer horror of it!

This, I think, is a watershed moment in the history of Mopologetics.

The world will never be the same again.

We've already gone over this, Scratch. You asked, and I answered: The letters MMM refer to the Meanest Man in Mormonism. And that's me.

If it'll help you to remember, maybe you should write that on your hand.

Those were ridiculously tame comments to QQ over.

Yeah, those were pretty stupid posts. Heck, they can't even spell Hitchens or atheist correctly. Is FARMS getting their money out of these jokers? ;)

How did you know that FARMS sponsors Skinny-L ($950K per annum) and rewards each Skinny-L post with a hundred frequent flyer miles on Air Swaziland?

Hey, I've been on Skinny-L quite some time, and nobody's given me any frequent flyer miles (sniff!). Maybe if you guys ante up, I might stop supplying your malevolent stalker with information.

PS: I seem to have gained my own malevolent stalker from somewhere near Cedar City, except mine is more foul-mouthed and unscrupulous than yours. :)

Heheh. I'm pretty confident that, if we manage to fly you off to Swaziland, you won't be supplying any juicy data for Scratch's "dossiers" for a while.

Oh yippee! I wish you much joy of him. Mine has surely been an inexhaustible source of edification and enlightenment.

Is your stalker somebody I'm acquainted with?

I'm pretty sure Hitchens drinks Scotch, not gin.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Actually, I'm remarkably out of the loop. I couldn't supply any inside dirt on anyone, as I don't know any such dirt. (Well, I do know that someone in BYU's office of the academic vice president has a rather disreputable brother-in-law.)

Oh yippee! I wish you much joy of him. Mine has surely been an inexhaustible source of edification and enlightenment.

Nah, mine is utterly incapable of anything beyond sexually explicit double-entendres and desperate attempts to link me with a convicted murderer(!).

Is your stalker somebody I'm acquainted with?

I dunno. Do you know anyone who combines the wit of Carrot Top and the encyclopedic knowledge of Karl Pilkington? That would be him.
