Has he gone too far by attaching his LDS name and cause to a place where ex'd Mormon homosexuals can publicly rail against LDS policy concerning homosexuals?

Perhaps we could call a konklave and hex him with a grease spot prophecy like we did to Congress over a century ago....

He probably has gone too far. I remember the case of rpcman, who used to run a great website and hosted 2think, If I recall correctly. He was openly apostate for years, and the church didn't take action against him until he opposed their actions in CA in regards to prop (whatever, don't remember the number, the first proposition regarding gay marriage). When he openly opposed the church in regards to that one issue, they ex'd him for apostasy. So I think the church's tolerance for supporting gays in any way is pretty low.

I hope you don't mind, but my own memory is different in that regard. I strongly believe that it was only when he put up a page critiquing the "Proclamation on the Family" that (according to rumor) the guy who worked on it got pissed off, hunted down his address, and had his Stake President excommunicate him.

I hadn't heard that rumor. You mean the guy who worked on the Proclamation to the Family hunted him down?

I really hope they do not go after John Dehlin. He has done a lot of good, and arguably managed to help a few people stay in the LDS Church when they might otherwise have left. He also tries to be respectful in his disagreement with the Church on their opposition to gay marriage. I think the Church leaders would really shoot themselves in the foot were they to pursue him. There are quite a few people who would be very upset about that.

I wonder if there's an ideological clash/struggle within the top leaders on how to handle these fringie members.

I listened to the interview while putzing around with my website stuff - one part that sounded very familiar was her reaction to the sexually intrusive questions they asked her during her (If I recall correctly) disfellowshipment. What positions was she in? What was she thinking about right before sex? WTH????

This is a recurring topic on RFM - unnecessarily intrusive, arguably prurient questions asked during worthiness interviews. These questions seem to be addressed more towards females than males.

John Dehlin is like many of my LDS friends. Grew up in Utah believing in the "seminary" version of Mormonism. Their secular education put many issues of their Mormonism in question but they've mostly put them "on the shelf". They don't openly look for reasons to disbelieve but they're openly critical of the antiquated LDS beliefs of history, race, and gender.

When John was made director of Sunstone I thought that was a wise choice of a middle of the road peacemaker so to speak. Anyone have a idea why he left so quickly?

Yes; all that came straight from rpcman himself. How he knew who it was that tracked him down, I have no idea.
