LDS assigning California Prop 8 coordinators at ward level!

It looks like LDS Inc is using their position to not only persuade its members on politics, but actually assigning members as coordinators!

So much for not telling their members how to vote.

I just saw the following on yonder MA&Dite board:

As you probably already know, there is a proposed state constitutional amendment coming to the California voters in November to protect marriage. We faced this issue eight years ago, but it was overturned this year by judges in San Francisco.
I've been assigned as our ward Prop 8 coordinator and currently seeking donations from members of the ward. Many of us are also contacting family and friends outside the state as well for support.
This is why I'm sending you all this message and attaching a PDF version of the donation form in case any of you are interested in supporting the cause. No obligation - just wanted to give you an opportunity.
It's exciting to be part of this effort and to see the Church taking a proactive role in supporting this change. It is through http://protectmarriage.com that the church has asked us to make our contributions. What happens here in November will affect the other states as well.

Anyone like to let the opposition that the Mormons will attempt bloc voting?

I am willing to wager that the amount of Mormons in CA that are staunch enough to listen to the leaders in SLC is so insignificant as to be non-existant.

Since their votes in CA will change absolutely NOTHING, the church made a HUGE mistake in taking an active stand.

Any Mormons in CA that are actually listening to the brethren in SLC would have voted for it anyways. This active stance MAY have changed a couple of dozen votes from no to yes, but it was really a stupid thing to do.

Well, I am Not Pro-gay Marriage, however I am wandering why the LDS Church is taking such an active roll in making sure that gay marriage is Not legally recognize, since the LDS Church has essentially always taught the marriage is a commenmdent, and that in order for a man to be able to enter into the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom, he must get married. Former 13th LDS President Ezra Taft Benson Stated:

My dear single adult brethren, we are also concerned. We want you to know that the position of the Church has never changed regarding the importance of celestial marriage. It is a commandment of God. The Lord’s declaration in Genesis is still true: “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone” (Gen. 2:18).

To obtain a fulness of glory and exaltation in the celestial kingdom, one must enter into this holiest of ordinances.

How are the gay men within the LDS Church supposed to be able to get into the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom, if they cannot get legally marry to a Person that they are physically attractive to? Christ while on earth in the New Testament, Never taught that a man had to get marry to be able to enter into the highest degree of heaven. Why couldn't the LDS Church just of have been all right with a few their male members being single throughout their lifetimes?

Of COURSE gay LDS men are to marry....a worthy LDS woman. Being gay is just a birth defect that they have to overcome.

So is this assignment an official calling where the person is approached by a member of the Bishopric - "Brother Jones, we would like to call you as the Prop 8 coordinator." Then a sustaining vote in sacrament meeting, "All in favor of brother Jones being the prop 8 coordinator please show with the uplifted hand." and then the person is set apart in the bishop's office after church, "John Robert Jones, having been commissioned of Jesus Christ and by the power of the Melchezidec Priesthood which I hold, I set you apart as the prop 8 coordinator for this ward. At this time I would like to give you blessing that you will fulfill your calling to the best of your abilities...yada yada yada."

I thought this was more like the poor schmuck who gets tapped to be the contact for the Boy Scout campaign every year. It's not a calling; it's just an assignment.

Hello Scottie! However, It is and it was Not fair to the worthy LDS Woman, who had a husband, who was not physically attractive to her. It also was not fair to that LDS man. The LDS Church was wrong about that advice.
