Robert Meldrum

Post by _harmony »

I've heard this name a bit. We have a Meldrum family in my sister ward, so I'm wondering about this guy.

Who is he? What is his background? What is his schtick, that he's on the apologist radar?
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Perhaps you are referring to Rodney Meldrum?

His theories buck against the prevailing opinions of the FARMS folks and many at FAIR.

Hope this helps,

But are right in line with the opinions of such Mormon luminaries as Joseph Smith, Jr., Brigham Young, Spencer W. Kimball, Ezra Taft Benson, Bruce R. McConkie, Joseph Fielding Smith, and Gordon B. Hinckley, to name a few. Oh, and the vast majority of true-believing Mormon church members, who actually think the church is led by prophets speaking directly to Jeebus, and not by a bunch of egghead college professors. But that's what makes it so much fun. To be an apologist, you have to reject the very prophets you work so hard to defend. It's a delicious irony.

He is the people's apologist.

The fair farmers hate it, as he has has a much larger following than fair and farms combined, and the salt in that wound is that Meldrum has done it in a very short time period.

He did this by speaking in terms that chapel Mormon understand and know. Most chapel Mormons are comfortable with the realistic answers from Meldrum than they are with plausibilities from Fair/Farms/MI.

Of course he is in the sights of the MI farmer's rock salt shotgun. He is walking onto ground they claim to belong to the Danielites.

Meldrum is offering Lagoon Amusement park and the Danielites only have a small FAIR whose biggest attraction is a petting zoo filled with tapirs and deer.

To my knowledge, FARMS has had absolutely nothing to say thus far about Rodney Meldrum or his theories.

You're right.

I would imagine it might be too much to ask...but...what do you think about Meldrum's theories? Do you see him as being misguided?

Is this fact or speculation?

If you are speculating, then I guess there's a 50% chance you are correct. If it is a fact that Meldrum has a larger following, then I'd like to see the data for future reference... so I can give up speculating myself.
