I'll respond, if I may.

"Dendo" is Japanese for proselytizing, tracting, missionary work.

A "triffod" is missionary slang for a giggling young Japanese girl, usually found in groups and clad in cute little school uniforms (shown HERE in their natural habitat). They are very appealing, naturally, to randy young 'elders.' A related term, "triffod squisher," refers to a packed train or subway car, in which one ends up pressed against one or more of said young thangs.

• "Dendo": Short for the Japanese verb "dendo suru," which means "to proselyte." Used all the time by missionaries as a catch-all word to describe anything having to do with finding investigators.
• "Triff": Missionary slang for a giggly Japanese girl who's boy-crazy for American missionaries.

Hmm. Perhaps this explains why my brother-in-law skipped out on his mission to Thailand and took off for Japan.

That's strange; Americans seem to be just as popular in Thailand as they are in Japan, if not more so.

Did you serve in Nagoya? I believe that's where my sister served as well.

Shades and I both did, as well as Tarski. I was there from 75 to 77, under Sato and Tanaka.

I was in Nagoya from 1990 to 1992, serving under presidents Smith and Ames.

My bro-in-law had been to Japan before his mission and I don't think he really wanted to go on a mission in the first place. He's always kind of been the black sheep/jack Mormon of his family.

My son was there under Ames, landing in Japan in Jan of '92.
