Temple Announced to Be Built In Independence(?)!

I was watching the local news last night, and they announced that the Mormon Church was going to be building a church here in the “Greater Kansas City Area”. It went on to say that in the 1830’s Joseph Smith lead the Mormons to Independence Missouri and that he taught that the Garden of Eden was and the New Jerusalem were here. The church came across, shall we say, quaint.

The locals find the idea of the Garden of Eden being in Independence Missouri as kind of funny. For those of you who haven’t been here, Independence Missouri is a big, urban, and not entirely nice suburb of Kansas City (think West Valley City). So is this a sign of the times? Are they going to build the Independence temple with fanfare like when they rebuilt the one in Nauvoo, or is it going to be a “mini-temple” in Overland Park which will mitigate the practical need of the Independence temple?

I think it closer to the latter - a smaller temple on the Kansas side. This will serve the present needs, but not mitigate the long term needs when the City of Enoch returns and we all invade you and need 24 temples to meet our needs. :)

by the way, have you seen any yellow dogs running around recently?

As long as yellow dogs prowl around, and the rainbow shows up now and again, all is well. (Now for some reason you've made me feel like having hot dogs with lots of mustard for dinner.)

You live in the City of Enoch?

What was the rainbow a token of, again? It was a token that the Lord would never again destroy the world by a localized flood, right?

That's correct. Next time it will be burned by fire.

Dear Lord,

Thanks for nothing!

LOL. I've never thought of it quite like that!

Yesterday my blog traffic nearly doubled because of people searching for information on the Missouri temple prophecy. The temple was supposed to be built "in this generation". So it's a bit too late to be fulfilling any prophecies here, unless "this generation" includes John and the Three Nephites. (Which, by the way, was one of the most inventive theological cop-outs of all time. If only pseudo-Peter had thought of that, he'd have save himself some rationalization in his second epistle!)

Another interesting fact is that the location where the temple was to be built is on land now owned by the RLDS. From my understanding Joseph Smith placed the first brick there while he was alive and said it was to be the location of the temple.

The temple of the New Jerusalem is going to be a massive complex. It will also be built by the Nephites, hence the current flood of illigal immigrants we are seeing in preparation for that.

And can I ask what this yellow dog thing is that your talking about? I vaguely remember something, but am very fuzzy.

It comes from a prophecy made by Heber C. Kimball (but apparently originates with Brigham Young):

"The Judgments of God will be poured out upon the wicked to the extent that our elders from far and near will be called home. Or in other words, the gospel will be taken from the Gentiles and later on will be carried to the Jews.

"The western boundaries of the state of Missouri will be swept so clean of its inhabitants that, as President Young tells us, when we return to that place, 'There will not be left so much as a yellow dog to wag his tail.'
