Dear Brethren-
In our semi-annual Post General Conference General Authority and General Auxiliary Training Meeting in April 2008, Presiding Bishop Burton showed us an artist's 3-D video representation that was created to show us the downtown revitalization of SLC (City Creek Center). The LDS Church owns all of the property and is funding all of this design and construction. The Church correlation committee must have just approved this video to be placed on the internet and it can now be shared with the public. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Bishop Burton told us that the one reason that the Church was spending so much time and effort building back and beautifying downtown SLC could be summed up in two words - 'THE TEM PLE'. He said that it was paramount that the Lord's temple be surrounded by beauty and protected to the best of our ability.
A couple of the details that were also revealed in our meeting include the fact that the food court on the Crossroads side of the street, will have a capacity of 1,000 people and will have a retractable roof (as you will see in the video). Also, in addition to food courts, shopping, and professional office space, there will be several towers of condominiums varying in price and not built at the same time. As they are built and sold, more will be constructed. Also, notice the hour-glass shape of the bridge over Main Street. This glass bridge will probably be one of the most beautiful of its kind in the world.
City creek will wander through the entire project and you will notice that the re are several waterfalls. No pumping of the water was needed, since the natural fall of the creek is 42 feet during it's path through the project. There will be a special emphasis on trees, fountains, walkways and open areas to add to the beauty of the center. It is anticipated that the moveable ceiling over the food court will be closed about 80 days per year, due to inclement weather, but left open most of the year.
I'm glad to finally share this with you, after having seen it 3 months ago. We were all gratified to see the downtown area revitalized and also to see the Church taking such a pro-active part in this.
It blends in well with the Main Street closure and beautification a few years ago, and I am certain that the new BYU-SLC campus that will be West of the Temple and the new Family History bu ilding that is almost completed Northeast of the Temple are also going to add to the beauty and protection of the Temple. The beautification and completion of City Creek Park many years ago, also adds to the overall success of the project.

Do you suppose they will do this to the Mesa Temple where the surrounding area looks like a Mexican Bario .. I predict no and they will close the Mesa after the new ones are built and tear the old one down. After all it does not have a steeple which is required for worship. Err..At least that is what Church attorneys tell municipalities when trying to build new temples and need waivers.

Lets see...
1. The SLC project is grossly over budget

2. Financial institutions are making the lending of this kind of money very difficult, especially to idiots who run massively overbudget to begin with.

The current liquidity of this type is drastically different than it was even as little as 8 months ago.

Good luck on them finding the funding to do that NOW.

It is? Can you reference me to said budget so I can review it?

Banks are lending quite fine and well to clients of good credit and financial backing. I assume the LDS Corp would fall into such parameters. Of course the project may be entirely funded with money the LDS Church has on hand. Wash I knew.

Actually once again there are many healthy banks and they are doing business as usual. Plus the government is pumping billions into the financial markets to ease credit as well. This will help the banks and capital projects. It will also most likely cause astronomical inflation.

Jason you may think everything is hunky dory w/ the Church finances,

but your leaders do not trust you to know what they are.

Regardless.. Its an excellent bet that what ever their financial condition was two years ago.. the drop in the stock market has had an effect them too.
