Santa Monica Bishop featured in article on Prop8-interesting

This article features a Bishop trying to take a "balanced" approach to Prop 8, leading to his own daughter walking out of his Ward when he speaks on the issue and his higher-ups being frustrated with him. It is all interesting, but check out this last paragraph. I wonder if this family will ever find themselves in Church again after he publicly called them "strange."

“If [gay marriage issues are taught in schools], a lot of the religious kids in the state will end up being home schooled, and that’s much worse than gay marriage in my opinion,” said Bennion. “There’s a tribe in my congregation that home schooled all of their kids, and boy did they turn out strange.”

(Emphasis mine.)

It's not surprising that the Church's heavy-handed involvement in Prop 8 has torn some families and CA wards apart. I found this one quote in the article interesting, and wonder if it's true:

Conversely thousands of their fellow church members have asked that their names be removed from church records so as not to be involved with an organisation that is perceived as being anti-gay.

Anybody know?

Ok, that's funny.

Frankly I think home schooling is a symptom of being strange, not the cause.

Its usually the shifty eyed inbreds who homeschool so as to further isolate the crotchfruit the idiots spawn.

Home schooling is a great indicator used to weed out the messed up kids from those who grew up in a well adjusted household.

One of my good friends who has held significant leadership in the Church where I live always says that whenever someone home schooled their kids it was always a red flag to him. Usually these people ended up being problems in one way or another. When I was in leadership I found he was very correct.

When I served in Santa Monica, it was estimated that half the singles ward was gay.

Bennion's problems arise because of pussy footing around the doctrine or not teaching it at all. Also a big problem is the gospel being taught incompletely or uncomfortable subjects being avoided before baptism.

Was this estimate based on gaydar? Or statistics on gay sex confessions to the bishop? Just curious.

Estimated by whom? The bishop, or the bartenders of gay bars?

Since when did "Vote Yes on Proposition 8" become part of the gospel?

I've said it before, but it's interesting how God was once powerful enough to convince the Egyptians to give up their Hebrew slaves, but fast-forward about 2,000 years and God can't even convince 51% of Californians to vote a certain way on Proposition 8--he's entirely dependent on his minions to do his dirty work for him.
