LDS Church issues statement about Prop. 8 result ....
"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."
-- Mike Quinn, writing of the FARMSboys, in "Early Mormonism and the Magic World View," p. x (Rev. ed. 1998)

A couple of parts there I read as an effort to avoid the backlash which I think they have earned for themselves. I will feel no sympathy whatever for all the bad publicity they get from various quarters.
If it turns out that the existing gay marriages are declared void (I don't see how that can be avoided), the Mormons could in fact be seen to have done metaphorically what that faux missionary ad suggested. That is, the Mormons came and took away married gay couples' marriages.

Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Allegations of bigotry or persecution made against the Church were and are simply wrong. The Church’s opposition to same-sex marriage neither constitutes nor condones any kind of hostility toward gays and lesbians.
They can say it till they're blue in the face, but it still doesn't make it so.

What the hell does a "sacred and divine institution" have to do with the legal definition in a state constitution? The connection only exists in a legal system based on the sacred and divine. The logic presented here is simply wrong.

And we all know what the Mormons mean by "sacred and divine institution of marriage" -- celestial marriage in the LDS temple. Russell Nelson made it very clear recently that any other form of "marriage" is essentially a man-made waste of time, which is exactly what gay couples wanted under the CA constitution.

That's General Leo. He could be my friend if he weren't my enemy.

It is important to understand that this issue for the Church has always been about the sacred and divine institution of marriage — a union between a man and a woman.

I think you have the a in the wrong place ..
God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it.
