The letter to the editor appeared in the SL Tribune,(online edition) Saturday but quickly disappeared. I know a number who had posted comments on it but NO comments show on the Trib pages.
I wonder if they posted it and then realized criticizing the future Mormon Political Hack was bad form and not approved from those highest in LDS Leadership?

And to let you know, visiting my bud here in North Dakota... we had great success Friday on opening day of the Deer hunt here. (last year over 105,000 were taken legally during the hunt. This year the blizzard at the opener may have an effect on that)

Spineless Steve Young
Article Last Updated: 11/07/2008 09:00:05 AM MST

I am stunned by Steve Young's cowardice in not being willing to express his opinion regarding the anti-gay marriage Proposition 8 in California ("Football star denies political activism," Tribune, Nov. 4). I applaud his wife's willingness to speak out on this issue; hear, hear! I can only imagine that she must be having a hard time seeing him remain silent so as not to jeopardize his good standing with the hierarchy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, the Utah public, and "family values" companies that might pay him handsomely for endorsements. Disgusting.

He obvioulsy believes his opinion is unimportant and is content to let his wife speak her own without his "famousness" overriding her message.

Personally, I think there's nothing wrong with that.

I think Steve Young is still in line to take over Senator Orin Hatch's seat after Mitt Romney takes over Senator Bennett's seat.

Tom, Thank you for the link. I tried the SLTrib.com page five different times and did three searches on the topic and came up with the original letter to the editor. But, in each no comments showed.

My fault for trusting the computer to find things I guess.

Appreciate the link. It appears I have run down the Trib in my frustration and am in the wrong for doing so. Have emailed the Trib editors to apologize.

I don't blame Steve Young AT ALL for staying silent on this issue.

Think of it from his perspective. He is the hero of San Francisco, a city notoriously known for being gay. He is also the hero of Mormonism, a religion notoriously known for being anti-gay.

No matter which opinion he states, he will be hated by a large number of his supporters. Best to just stay silent.

I definitely agree with this.

If he opens his mouth, he loses no matter what. Best to keep his mouth shut.
