Homophobia or bigotry--is that what it really is?

I've heard that people who oppose gay marriage are homophobic or bigoted. I also hear comparisons to the Old Jim Crow laws of separate but equal. But is the comparison really valid? Does the church insist that homosexuals use different drinking fountains? Does the church even insist that there be separate restooms, showers, and locker rooms for homosexuals? if anyone were a true homophobe, wouldn't they insist on this last one? For that matter why aren't we sexist for having separate male and female restrooms?

Do I think separate but equal will be satisfactory? No. It'll die sooner or later. However, I am not as certain about whether homosexuals will be able to marry each other. I think that we may end up like the UK with only civil unions for all and marriage being a religious term like baptism.

Why aren't we sexists here in the United States of America, for allowing males to walk down the street in public topless, but not for allowing females to walk down the street topless???

I am The Dude and I endorse this message.

You really want to legalize public toplessness for women in the US? I would endorse that too: all shapes and sizes.

Was the church bigoted for obstructing blacks from having the priesthood or going to the temple even though they didn't segregate them in some other ways? I would say yes. It isn't just about drinking fountains and locker rooms.

All ages too? If so then Pedobear would endorse it, and I always disdain anything he endorses.

Fair enough. Still, I think it demonstrates that current discrimination against gays isn't even in the same ballpark as what happened to blacks. It doesn't make it any more right, but I think it is good to try to keep things in perspective.
